American skier Shiffrin wins record 83rd World Cup race

The greatest athlete in the world.

Shiffrin's victories at such a young age is equivalent to a Wayne Gretzky type dominance as she nears Stenmark's all time record.

A Colorado native from Vail, she is gifted physically, technically and mentally to be such a great champion. It is beauty in motion to watch her ski.

American skier Mikaela Shiffrin felt all that and more after winning a record 83rd World Cup race.

Shiffrin’s giant slalom victory broke a tie on the all-time women’s list with former American teammate Lindsey Vonn, who retired four years ago when injuries cut her career short.

When ya think of traditional alpine skiing, ya usually think of Europeans

But here we are, two Americans topping the all-time lists

That's not something ya may expect

The record also comes nearly a year after Shiffrin didn’t win a medal in six events at the Beijing Olympics after entering amid big expectations. She didn't take long to rebound from her Beijing performance, claiming her fourth overall World Cup title at the end of last season.

She owned that Olympic disappointment - she didn't run away from the criticisms

That's likely helped her move on and move forward
