Censorship is never ok at any cost.

Well said by Naomi.

And there are still some people who try to justify holding international sports events in China. Sick.

When people raise legitimate questions about criminal behaviour and then go "missing", only CCP collaborators support the Genocide Games 2022.

Zhao said he had no knowledge of Peng's situation.

"Do you think the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry is omnipotent?" Zhao asked a reporter. "I suggest you ask the relevant authorities about the relevant question."

So now they're adnitting they ain't perfect, all-knowing and aff-seeing? Selective memory, thay's our CCP!

What a disgusting mob the CCP are.

Yet another reason to boycott the Olympics.

And Every athlete who does decide to go there should be protesting

You sure think you are JERK.

This is a very worrying situation, if nobody from the WTA (or ATP) community can reach her, she is probably in a "reeducation" center of police.

I am not specialist in rape psychology, but her statement is a bit confusing: after being sexually assaulted, she developed feelings for the perpetrator??

So why are we having another Olympics in this country again?

Where is Peng Shuai?

In China when you are "picking quarrels and provoking trouble" you can be arrested. Peng Shuai is no doubt undergoing "reeducation" at a fine Chinese establishment built for such trouble making people.

Perhaps Peng will run into the millions of Uighers already in these camps. She may not be heard of again until after she "graduates" at which point she will offer her full and unreserved apologies for causing trouble.

Living life the CCP approved way.

The CCP is oh so busy trying to sweep this ugly incident among one of their own under the rug.

When will the Chinese people rise up against this kind of crime and corruption?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

The CCP are not helping themselves by always making people disappear whenever there's trouble. I hope she's ok and is allowed to speak out. That man sounds disgusting. Having said that, I really don't care what Osaka has to say. She's irrelevant.

Yeah, the whole region is a camp. Give it a rest, will ya?

I'm sure the CCP could care less about what Naomi-chan has to say.

They are after all, a bunch of rich thugs.

Making people disappear means nothing to them.

You really need to escape to a place of safety before blowing the whistle on someone. Even then you may need to do it anonymously. I wish she had gained asylum somewhere before doing this. Whistleblowers suffer even in the West. Look what happened to Assange. He didn't even get any help from governments who had been victims of US spying that he had made public. In a dictatorship like China, whistleblowing is suicidal.

An update: state media showed an email purportedly from Peng to the WTA, but many think the email is dubious.

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/tennis-2021-world-stunned-dubious-email-peng-shuai-231345264.html

"Hello everyone this is Peng Shuai,

Regarding the recent news released on the official website of the WTA, the content has not been confirmed or verified by myself and it was released without my consent.

The news in that release, including the allegation of sexual assault, is not true. I’m not missing, nor am I unsafe. I’ve just been resting at home and everything is fine. Thank you again for caring about me.

If the WTA publishes any more news about me, please verify it with me, and release it with my consent. As a professional tennis player, I thank you all for your companionship and consideration.

I hope to promote Chinese tennis with you all if I have the chance in the future. I hope Chinese tennis will become better and better.

Once again, thank you for your consideration.”

The modes of totalitarian control are anything but sublime in China. More subtle forms are emerging in the West, especially in certain north American states. That said: the peoples of China are no more in control of their government than the common citizenry of certain western nations. However, accusations of sexual assault will not get the victim sent to Rikers or whatever is the equivalent to Chinese re-education facilities.

The rather anemic boilerplate offered by the WTA is insipid and hardly appropriate in light of the situation. If indeed Ms. Peng Shuai, is in any way being punished for accusing a former politico of sexual assault, the WTA should not just condemn China but disenfranchise any tennis related events and ban WTA events in China.

That Osaka and Djokovich have spoken out is all to the good. But, where is Li Na? Why hasn't she raised he voice? She is an influential individual and the face of tennis in China. And where is Nike and others who profit off tennis?

Most likely she is heavily sedated in a mental facility in a remote area getting rehabilitated, as a person would be crazy to make accusations against Communist officials in a totalitarian state.
