This is that Buddhist manji mark, right?

I don't think so. According to the article, it's the SS mark. Something like this, if your system supports the characters: ᛋᛋ (Unicode U+16CB)

"They (the supporters group) said they did not intend to make a political statement but rather used that design to present a strong image."

A strong image from a party that would have looked down on Japanese as "sub-humans".

What a bunch of boneheads.

Well, I'm glad instead that Gamba officials are showing a strong image instead in answer to the MORONIC image the group decided to embrace. Hope they're having a good think about what symbols and statements mean, even in a society with freedom of speech. Good on the officials.

DaDude: "This is that Buddhist manji mark, right?"

Ummm... no. And even then that is not like the Nazi Swastika, which you are likely thinking of.

I have found a photo of the flag on Google and it was (unless someone else had the same stupid idea) a black flag with a white circle in the middle. And in the middle of the circle there was indeed the SS mark in blue. Everyone who's interested can easily look it up by using Google's image search and searching for Gamba Osaka nazi flag.

I'm not sure if banning everyone else from bringing flags and banners to the game is the right way though. The guys that came up with this glorious idea have already been dealt with, so why punish all the other people as well?

This is that Buddhist manji mark, right? Even though it has a good meaning in Buddhism, it is weird to show it on a flag at a soccer game anyways. The thing is foreigners instantly think of a swastika when seeing on and many Japanese don't know what a swastika represented.
