Sochi Winter Olympics kick off with stunning opening ceremony

A replay is on now right now on NHK, looks extravagant and the usual Olympic spectacle,but the female commentator, someone please shut her and her high pitched squeals up! gah. Bring on the action!

@Carcharidon Reading your post reminded me of the days when I had Japanese TV and of the reasons why I no longer do.

Sounds like a pretty good opening. From the Japanese I've talked to today who watched it -- live or recorded -- they all said it was "so-so", though all were impressed by the glowing athlete marshals.

Mods: Can you guys make a seperate "Olympics" menu in the banner as you have in the past?

Not a fan of Putin using the Olympics to bolster his rule, but the opening ceremonies were visually impressive.

Too bad the Russian people didn't see the actual Olympic feed with said glitch. A delayed broadcast and clever editing left the poor home folks in the dark again.

Great spectacle and culture. Very impressive technology, choreography and largess. I am happy for them and really enjoyed the show. Combatte everyone. Love skiing.
