Of COURSE they did! They would have to mess up so badly not to. Why do you think Australia switched to the Asian group?

Why do you think Australia switched to the Asian group?

To gain experience through more and better opposition. Apart from New Zealand there are none in the Oceania group that make much of a match for Australia. Now New Zealand are all but guaranteed of making every world cup from here on.

Australia cemented themselves in the top echelon of the Asian grouping pretty much immediately, but it has not always been easy. Now with eight spots Japan, South Korea, Australia, Saudi Arabia would need to stuff up badly and consistently to not get a spot at future world cups. Iran should also pick up one spot leaving 3.5 spots open for others to get in. For many it would be their first time at a world cup.

Korea vs China, 3 : 0, what a great and well-deserved result.
