And Charlton did it from midfield. When it really mattered, in three World Cups, Rooney did as well as Matthew Upson, with 1 goal. Only took Upson one World Cup though.

Level with Lineker. A pity that unlike Lineker, they didn't also come in big tournaments against the very best. Lineker hit 10 of his in just two World Cup tournaments. Taking pot shots at San Marino should see him overtake Charlton. A fitting way to see Rooney to take top spot.
