Of course the sponsors are staying tight lipped-it’s a money thing.

celebration of humanity, altogether

Yep, "together" in oppression, censorship, and dictatorship.

I've said it many times, IOC is short for I Owe China.

17 ( +19 / -2 )

Seems to be the most prudent advice in order for most there just to continue to enjoy “life as they know it”:

- “remain largely silent”

Once again, the IOC will go, gorge themselves and then, move on the next place - ( kind of like locusts? )

The olympics has become a very vile disgusting enterprise.....here people by the hundreds of thousands caught covid, some died, now onto china a massive highly repressive regime.....I wonder if North Korea will soon get these "games".......

9 ( +12 / -3 )

When you dont care about the worst genocide since Nazi Germany, both athletes and sponsors will just choose to remain silent for their own selfish purposes.

Shame on every athlete who attends and every company connected to it. Let their collaboration with China follow them around forever.

Boycott the Genocide Games 2022.

Mr KiplingToday  05:36 pm JST

There is no genocide, well, only in the minds of the rabid anti China cultists.

If there is no genocide, China would not obstruct an international investogation. Obviously there is something to hide.

"UN members call for ‘immediate, meaningful and unfettered access’ to Xinjiang for rights inquiry

Delegations from US, Britain, Germany and other nations seek an investigation by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet

‘If you have nothing to hide, why do you not finally grant unimpeded access?’ one ambassador asks"

China is the end result of far left socialist ideologies. Thank your lucky stars your live in a strong conservative country like Japan.

“We know bad stuff is happening but we really, really, really like money.”

11 ( +12 / -1 )

I’m curious what kind of ingenious and novel excuses those corporate sponsors will come up with to justify their commitments to the Beijing Winter Olympics.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Where are the refugees? Every single calamitous event in humanity has had huge numbers of refugees. Where are the pictures? There is no way the Muslim world would keep silent on this.

Iraqi soldiers stabbing babies in the incubators; soccer players who lost a game were tortured until they won; Uighur women forced to go through sterilization are inserted with electric device and the detergent powder in a little vial that is the evidence for weapons of mass destruction. You have to come up with more convincing lies than these.

Finland is one of the freest countries in the world. The Helsinki Times reported that the White House instigated US officials to put the blame on China for COVID-1: "There was even a 57-page strategy document that taught US politicians to slander China with the pandemic."

Time to boycott those sponsors and the genocide Olympics!

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Why should they? They didn't need to during Sochi.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

“We know bad stuff is happening but we really, really, really like money.”

You got proof, then show it. Made-up stuff from BBC or anything funded by terrorists ETIM-supporting NED and ASPI doesn't count.

This is a valid question that's why we need to continue to keep watch. We can't conclude however, that there is genocide based on circumstantial evidence.

We can also consider the following from TIME:

https://time.com/5496435/china-12-diplomats-tour-xinjiang/

Diplomats from 12 countries with large Muslim populations visited Xinjiang, after months of silence by governments across the Islamic world in the face of China’s crackdown on minority Muslim Uighurs in its far western region.

Envoys from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Thailand, and Kuwait visited the region. The visit comes as increasing skepticism over Beijing’s human rights record — namely its campaign against the Uighurs — threatens its global ambitions.

They allowed those who would be concerned about how their fellow Muslims are treated in to tour the Education Centers.

Still, we need to keep watch, but I wouldn't say because access is partially restricted, there must be genocide.

50 Ambassadors to the UNOG signed a joint letter to the president of the UN Human Rights Council and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, positively evaluating human rights developments in China's Uyghur Autonomous Region.

In the joint letter, the ambassadors gave credit to China's counter-terrorism and de-radicalization efforts.

"Faced with the grave challenge of terrorism and extremism, China has undertaken a series of counter-terrorism and de-radicalization measures in Xinjiang, including setting up vocational education and training centers. Now safety and security has returned to Xinjiang and the fundamental human rights of people there have enjoyed stronger senses of fulfillment, happiness and security," they said.

The ambassadors also urged the relevant countries to "refrain from employing unfounded charges against China based on unconfirmed information before they visit Xinjiang."

Sponsors asked to defend support for Beijing Winter Olympics

Asked?? The extortionist host only makes them an offer they cannot refuse.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

This "boycott" rhetoric is getting old. Why not start with yourself then and stop paying attention to news about China?

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Hence the first round of Booster-jabs starting up, followed by how many more rounds.......

This is a man-made virus, wilfully released on the world, stamped "Made in China" - we must never forget this and hold them to account every second of the day.

Boycott China Now and Everyday.

The Olympics are not supposed to be about politics.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

For its part, the IOC says its only focus is sports and has no remit to act on the polices of a sovereign state. The IOC does, however, hold an observer seat at the United Nations, unlike any other sports business.

“We have a lot of respect for other organizations that have other purposes in life,” Juan Antonio Samaranch, the IOC member in charge of Beijing preparations, said earlier this week in responding to the ITUC report.

Amazing stuff from the IOC that beggars belief. Literally.

Samaranch, "the IOC member in charge of Beijing preparations" ... died in 2010!

Thats truly impressive if he is still pulling the strings and putting out statements!

The article:

allow venues to be filled to capacity ... by using a system to check whether visitors have been vaccinated or have tested negative

This "boycott" rhetoric is getting old. Why not start with yourself then and stop paying attention to news about China?

If we ignore a genocide does it go away?

The Beijing Olympics is similar to the Berlin one in 1936, a criminal regime seeking legitimacy. We all know where that led us to…l

"This boycott rhetoric is getting old"......

Well, I'm old enough to remember the 10 or 15 years I spent boycotting everything to do with South Africa, and that certainly seemed to work, apartheid came to a crashing end eventually. It's called people power, and without it nothing will change.

In respect of China, everything must change - it's responsible for the worst worldwide medical crisis in all of our lifetimes, it is persecuting it's own people in the genocide of the Uighurs, it's squeezing the lifeblood of democracy out of Hong Kong, it has 11 separate international border disputes in the region, it plans to take back Taiwan 'by force if necessary'...... what possible reason could there be in supporting China, and their wish for world-respectability in hosting their Winter Olympics ?

Boycotts work, eventually, everyone just has to be very determined. We must also remember that this is a privilege we have in the free parts of the world.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

I think this is asking too much from sponsors who had already sign contracts years ago. People forget that companies main goal is to earn profits to survive and this is capitalism. If they don't take it, their competitors would take it and eventually surpass them. I don't think it's fair these human right organizations should specially target these companies when nations worldwide are still working with china in every business there is. Why is nobody calling out apple still having factories in china? Or that US import of supplies has significant increase from China? Or that Wall Street is still investing tons of money there. Is kinda hypocrisy to accuse the sponsors when the whole world is actually still doing business with China on every scale of business there is.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Where are the refugees?

In concentration camps in Xinjiang, didn’t you read that part?

Every single calamitous event in humanity has had huge numbers of refugees. Where are the pictures?

I’m guessing the Chinese government isn’t allowing photographers in to its concentration camps. Go figure. The outside world during WW2 didn’t have pictures from inside Auschwitz to tell them what was going on in there either, but that didn’t mean horrible atrocities weren’t going on.

There is no way the Muslim world would keep silent on this.

The muslim world isn’t keeping silent on this, they are just as mad as everyone else.

The ambassadors also urged the relevant countries to "refrain from employing unfounded charges against China based on unconfirmed information before they visit Xinjiang."

Repeating the CCP propaganda doesn’t make it true. These exact lies are repeated in all Chinese government publications but the truth is different

China is trying to buy its way out of a genocide and anyone who enables it is supporting murder!!!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Its an Olympics sporting event so lets try to focus on that and not what the government of China is doing or other governments are doing .

Lets see what the athletes can do.

China has proven to be more serious about containing the coronovirus than Japan.

Even tho iam not very fond of China or Chinese .

> I’m guessing the Chinese government isn’t allowing photographers in to its concentration camps. Go figure. The outside world during WW2 didn’t have pictures from inside Auschwitz to tell them what was going on in there either, but that didn’t mean horrible atrocities weren’t going on.

China hasn't allow people into its detention camps except for 50 ambassadors and diplomats from 12 Muslim countries. How do you reconcile the following?

We do not have pictures but it doesn't mean that it isn't happening.

We do not have pictures but we can say it is happening.

There are people in the US making a lot of money in China. They are not going to give up millions of dollars even if there is genocide. Fat chance.

I didn't realize the General Electric had two extra nickels to rub together these days. Their longtime shareholders must be thrilled.

You have to come up with more convincing lies than these.

You bring up very valid points which many people who aren't fooled easily also bring up. I'll admit, even I was fooled by these baseless claims for many years. It's all down to America's unwillingness to give up its hegemony, especially to a non-white country. Xinjiang is to China as WMD was to Iraq. Sadly, many people here just buy into this. Muslim tourists can freely visit Xinjiang. There are mosques literally everywhere. Where are the refugees? There are tons of videos showing Uighurs enjoying life in Xinjiang and speaking their own language, with the educated ones also fluent in Mandarin. Do people honestly think Welshmen can leave Wales and do well without knowing a word of English, especially in the rest of the UK.

The lies of some of the so-called victims have been debunked. One often-used woman first said she was mentally tortured - nothing physical. A few months later, she said it was physical. Under arrest, and yet she was able to obtain a Chinese passport from the government and leave!!! The date of issue was on her passport and was during her detention!!!!! When this was noted, the western media blanked out the date of issue in later photos.

Another well-known guy said his father-in-law was being held hostage. Turns out his father-in-law was a famous Uighur entertainer and wanted nothing to do with him. When he was caught out, he then said he was divorced and was referring to the father of his 'second' wife.

These people are being paid by America. NED.

TokyoJoe:

Couldn’t have said it any better. Leftist ideologies are horrendous because they require conformity. Well, humans are not conformist by nature. Therefore repression is required to maintain control. If people have the freedom to choose, many will go against the regimes dictates. It’s the fatal flaw of socialism.

Socialism is fine as long as it’s not enforced by the power of the state. Another word for this is charity.

IOC = Incompetent Operating Committee

Leftist ideologies are horrendous because they require conformity.

Do not all ideologies by definition require conformity?

Well, humans are not conformist by nature.

Really? Try painting your house in a weird color in a posh US suburb. Or sending your son to school in Scotland with pink underwear. (I have big memories of a teacher at my school shouting at us rebels - you think you're clever opposing the school rules, but look at yourselves, you all dress and behave the same with your long hair and stupid shoes.)

But I agree with you about state enforcement. One of the great plus-minus features of Japan is the very local enforcement of various rules. And perhaps how so many don't vote in national elections - perhaps because they realize that it makes little difference. I think there's a difference between conforming and going along with stuff that's largely irrelevant. And so I wonder how most Chinese people think of their government - and unfortunately, I don't know.

As I've said before, my main problem with China's government is it's territorial nationalism. I really find that ugly.

(Sorry if I'm ranting. It's Friday.)

China hasn't allow people into its detention camps except for 50 ambassadors and diplomats from 12 Muslim countries. How do you reconcile the following?

Why don’t you share the complete information rather than copying it from global times, the Chinese government propaganda site?

The ambassadors were taken to meet a few selected people at a ‘skills training ‘ site. There was no free interaction, no one was allowed to verify anything independently!!!

As I said repeating the Chinese government lies doesn’t make the genocide go away.

Defending a genocide by is shameful!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

They didn't need to during the Tokyo Olympics.

Why they have to here?

In case you didn’t know, Tokyo s not located in China!!!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

There are people in the US making a lot of money in China. They are not going to give up millions of dollars even if there is genocide. Fat chance.

Countries are stopping imports of anything made in Xinjiang, so that’s a start.

You certainly are very loyal to CCP, considering you claimed to be a student of ‘Chinese Language’ in Japan.

Is that very common, people coming to Japan to study Chinese as compared to doing it in China???

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There are no evidence of genocide, it's merely rhetoric.

If you have evidence, kindly post a link please

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Genocide is more like invading a country and killing hundreds of thousands of its people, has China done anything like that?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

You need to educate yourself on what genocide means.

Millions of people in prisons, rapes, forced abortions, killings. Isn’t that enough for you?????

0 ( +1 / -1 )

You bring up very valid points which many people who aren't fooled easily also bring up. I'll admit, even I was fooled by these baseless claims for many years.

The Muslims in Xinjiang alleged to have links to terrorism are detained. The Muslims in Iraq are bombed and killed over eight years. Thousands of civilians were killed over some white powder in a little vial.

Muslim tourists can freely visit Xinjiang.

When the pandemic ends, many more can go and see for themselves. Yes, that's the pandemic that started in Wuhan (I'm posting the response to save them the trouble of replying.)

Do people honestly think Welshmen can leave Wales and do well without knowing a word of English, especially in the rest of the UK.

And immigrants in the US would not do well in the workforce if they can't speak English.

The lies of some of the so-called victims have been debunked.

There have been so many. My favorite is the guy dressed as a Chinese police but his police vest has the wrong Kanji sewn on it. CNN didn't even bother checking. It's like a comedy skit.

Globaltimes is known to post lot of fake stuff, you shouldn’t believe what they post. Poorly researched information, racist caricatures are all they are known for.

Ant colonies are visible via Google Earth. We have the technology to pick up flying ants, but we can't produce the so called hundreds of concentration camps in Xinjiang?

No, not at all. If there are pre-schools, then it is a kind service to offer care and education for young children. The educational programs are rehabilitating and better than just locking those with ties to Islamic extremist groups up in prison. There is justice (punishment) and grace (humanity).

You find nothing wrong with children growing up in prison because both their parents have been imprisoned by the CCP?????

Justice, humanity????? Tell that to the people who are killed , raped, tortured every day in the concentration camps????

Is brainwashing a part of your ‘Chinese’ language classes???
