Breakdancing in the Olympics. WTF, seriously?
Why not yo-yoing, frisbee, miming, or coding?

Brilliant news and it's nice to see the Games catch up to the modern age, albeit some 40 years into the phenomenon!

Yo-yoing would fall into a similar category as ribbons in gymnastics. And the Chinese yo-yo/diabolo does take a lot of skill to master.
Ultimate Frisbee is a valid and growing summer competitive team sport, much like rugby and lacrosse.
Miming might fall into a similar category of performance art/sport like figure-skating and freestyle gymnastics, and potentially now breakdancing. I personally don't see it happening, though.
Coding, however, might not fit into strictly athletic/physical performances. There are already many programming and e-sports competitions, however, where it would fit.

I’m sure I read somewhere that Finland won gold for town-planning back in the early twentieth century...,

If we'd only had Olympic tap dancing. Sammy Davis Jr. vs. Roy Castle!
(This doesn't need another $20million dedicated facility, does it?)

If they all have to perform to Rockit! then I’ll bite.

Yeah, wait until breakdancing died... like 30 years ago... to make it an Olympic sport. Japan is the only place I've seen people still doing it. Maybe that's why they want it in.
But... you know... equestrian used to be an Olympic sport, and table tennis and snow boarding used to not be considered sports at all, but recreation distractions. Certainly shooting and archery take no physical athleticism (and I do archery, so I can say that). So, once something becomes the norm, you never know.

I can’t wait to see them get airborne doing the worm wriggle!

Hip-hop culture sure riles up the puritans.
I'm not a big fan of synchronized swimming but who am I to say it's not a worthy sport?
