Seems to me that the "Japanese" yokozuna's time to retire has come!

Is this the beginning of the end for Kisenosato? I hope he can get his old form back before it's too late.

It is indeed a worrying time for the fans of the nation’s only yokozuna. However, it is far too early to talk about retirement.

Give it away already, Kisenosato, and let the real champs slug it out. Could be time to open a chanko nabe restaurant somewhere!

While it's understandable for someone to have this opinion, sumo is different. There is a "belief" that a yokozuna should never lose to wrestlers who are not in the "upper tier" or three highest ranks. If they lose they give away what is called a "kin-boshi" or literally translated to "gold star" which also means more cash for the winning wrestler as well.
Until now, and it over 30 plus years of watching and following sumo, NO yokozuna has ever been allowed to stay active after missing so many bouts, in not one or two tournaments, but 4 and very possibly 5, as if Kisenosato loses one more match, and odds are EXTREMELY high he will, as he has yet to face the ozeki or Kakuryu he will have lost 1/3 of his matches, IF he wins out that is.
Notice, Hakuho resigned from this tournament? Yokozuna can not be demoted, and losing this much is a slap in the face to the "rules" written or otherwise, and he is only getting away with it because the sumo association wants to keep their "Japanese" yokozuna.
You can bet, if it were Hakuho, Kakuryu, or (before he resigned) Harumafuji, the sumo association would has forced THEM to retire.

Time for another face-saving injury to be reported, then withdrawl from the tournament.
