In terms of medal race, for a long time, first three places will be fixed: China 1, South Korea 2, Japan 3. It's a matter of which country is going to be in the fourth place.

As an Aussie, I never thought I'd see a long-distance champion to better our superstars - Perkins, Hackett, Thorpedo, et al. But this Chinese kid has already eclipsed them all. Well done, Mr. Sun - what a legend!

"his shock 200m loss" That would be "shocking 200m loss," unless he misplaced his "shock 200m," whatever that might be.

If it's any consolation, Sun trained in Australia on and off just before his multiple wins in London 2012 and worked with a famous Australian coach.

@ Pukey - spot on! I think he trained on the Gold Coast? Obviously we taught him everything he knows!

Sorry, John, Japan is in second place now.

No, it's great. Japan should really win South Korea this time. I don't think Japan ever beat South Korea since 1980. Maybe once or twice?

Anyway, Japan beating South Korea will help boost their pride, and it can make them less angry towards their neighbors.

You're right, Japan has beaten South Korea twice in the last couple decades. South Korea has hosted the games 3 times out of the last 9 times, which has helped them catch up a lot in terms of medals. They still have about 300 more gold medals to go before overtaking Japan, but they've been doing really well at home.
