Shows the sad mentality of most (not all) Americans.

John, I heard many people enjoyed commercials beginning early 1st half becaise Bronco kept being 0. Not all people are fans, Many people watched Hallmark channels of Murder She Wrote marathon, Commercial watchers made that most watched,

I certainly did not bother but living here in Japan not just the same on a Monday morning.

I'm not a football fan, but if back home with friends and/or family, or a sports bar, I'd be eating the nachos and enjoying the show, I'm sure. I've watched a few of the commercials and most that I saw rocked.

The U.S. is becoming a bread (welfare) and circuses (superbowl, reality TV, Kimye et al) society.

Totally shows how much Americans are more about fluff than substance. Worst SB in decades and they still stayed tuned in for the Half time show and commercials, says a lot about how much it isn't about the game. Glad I never wasted the 4 hours to actually see the ball in play for a total of 12 minutes.

Yeah, ok, so I get it, so more US bashing, if they don't watch Oylimpics, they are not international team players, if they don't like Soccer, they don't understand the worlds most beloved sport. It doesn't matter what we do, some people like you will always find a way to dis on Americans for anything.

I was able to get the game, watched it, it was fun. Americans like Football, that's our sport and? If you're European, you like Soccer, if you're Scandanavian, Hockey or Curling, Japanese, Baseball, nothing wrong with it. Let every country enjoy THEIR sport. Super Bowl comes once a year, it's totally ok to be about substance for a day. Life is too short, live a little.

Agree that US is slowly losing itself in TV and celebrity. Point of this is not that people watched but that it was the "most watched" ever. Same with the sad death of Philip Seymour Hoffman - you would think the Pope or someone really significant had died, not an actor.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

I watched it live and Denver played very poorly. When the first snap of the game went over the quarterbacks head, I knew it would be a one sided game.

Bread and circuses indeed.

Funny, you Europeans would never say the same thing about soccer, World Cup, the most televised sport event in the world. Let's see how you guys do this year when it's on TV. As for Hoffman, he's story is on JT, the Japan Times, Der Spiegel, the Guardian etc. also, he was a Canadian, NOT American and liked and respected all over the world as AN ACTOR. Except for the fact, he died in the US, the US and the people had nothing to do with his untimely demise. Anyway, the game was....not bad, but Football is our culture, if people don't like it, they don't have to watch, but most Americans do love the sport. No apologies.

Very well said, bass ! (Both posts) Thank you !

I'm British and I enjoy American Football. Started watching it in the UK.

The most awful thing happened for me. I recorded it on BS NHK (never again) and the very first picture was the end of the NHK news which displayed the winner in bold writing as a final bit of news. This was seconds before the coverage of the football! Aaaaagggggghhhhhh! Thanks very much NHK. I'll be recording it on Hikari next year.

So basically, you've been all over America and you know EVERY American is fat and eats junk food? Question, during World Cup, what do people munch on carrot sticks? No, they drown themselves in beer which too, has a lot of calories, love beer by the way, but it doesn't matter, snacks are eaten at every event, every country and every culture. Many Americans are fat! I don't think an evening of watching the Super Bowl will make Americans fatter, come on. I have a much better idea. Just make it easier, say, "I hate Americans or I hate watching Football." But don't come and throw ad hom attacks, it's rather childish and trust me, you won't make us feel bad, quite the opposite.

@blackrock

The US kind, it's a true mans sport, a true American sport, NOT for the faint and weak-hearted, if you can't stand the heat... By the way, for most Americans watching a bunch of guys kicking a ball back and forth for 90 min. Is NOT only perplexing and mentally torturous, but downright laughable.

To be fair, I love watching Soccer, but it's just how you grew up and environment. For me, Football is first, everything else drops to 2nd place. For us this is the one time, where every American comes together. Even in politics, there is No Red or Blue, Republican or Democrat, Americans put everything petty aside, come enjoy and watch the game, it brings people together, family, friends and foes, I think it's a great thing to put everything aside to to indulge in this great advent. The world is a mess, problems everywhere and to partake in this event, either in person or watching it on TV, online and then afterward, having to hear people bash you for watching a sports event that is important to that nations speaks volumes of how small minded some people truly are.

Rushed home to catch the kick-off, but missed it by less than a minute. Fell asleep by the 3rd set of commercials ---- about 10 minutes into the game? Seems I didn't miss anything. The DVR recorded the game, but I haven't bothered to watch that.

The last few years, my friends scheduled business meetings during the superbowl by accident and didn't notice it. We aren't pro football fans. The last time I recall watching the entire game live was during a trip to Asia - in Hong Kong and got reservations at an expat bar with 80% Britts and 1 really, really, really obnoxious American from New York. Fun time even though I didn't know who was playing then either.

Not all Americans love sports and certainly not Pro football. College sports are more to my liking.

American football whatever, but I am glad the Seahawks won, good for them.

A lot of negative Nancies here today. Must everything be constantly ridiculed?

If people enjoyed watching the game (and obviously many did), accept it and move on.

Xenophobia as usual here. What folks here don't get because they don't live here, is that:

US football fans well know that the best games are the playoff games preceding the Superbowl. We also know that more often than not the Superbowl game is one-sided and probably not going to be a good game, so We get together with good friends on Superbowl Sunday as a cultural holiday and a good excuse to get together. We watch the game if it's good and carry on conversations if it isn't

As I said, only xenophobia could prevent the naysayers here from figuring this out.

Thanks for the comment, Matt! I like association football also, but American football is my favorite.

Great entertainment, especially if watching with the kids.

Glad to hear that. That's exactly what is so fun about watching sports. What's interesting is, that I know a lot of Brits that shunned at the mere thought of watching Football, but once they really understood the rules, they became big fans of the sport. It brings people together and people that enjoy ridiculing others means, either they are jealous or they have no life or recourse than to poke shots and try to belittle people. But as Photoman said, a few people on JT have a lot of xenophobia built inside them. Thanks for sharing, Matt.

Although Seattle beat the tar out of Denver, it was a great game to watch nonetheless. The Seahawks played some great smash mouth football.
