Good for Naomi, we stand with her!

Doing right things gives her power. Go Naomi.

I wonder if a player would be accused of racism if they wore a mask with the names of 1,250 some white people killed by police and not just the 250 black people?

The girl is naturally talented no doubt about that, now whether her activism helps and improves her playing seems a bit far stretched, but politically it sounds good on paper.

Go Naomi.

At this level, tennis is mostly a mental game, and Osaka struggled last year at this aspect. If this activism helps her, and it is a cause in which she believes, that's great. She is a set up by the way.

And by the way, she chose this cause for whatever reasons she believes in; I really don't understand the logic that her cause if wrong because she does not stand for other causes as well, rights of eschimos, free Tibet, poverty in Africa, melting of icebergs or whatever.

Ten days ago a police officer was killed by a black man in St. Louis. His name was Tamarris Bohannon, and he was also black. Say his name, Ms. Osaka.

Correction to my post, the shooter was not black. However the point remains that Officer Bohannon should be remembered over a career criminal.

Instead of defending the actions/lifestyle of a violent criminal Osaka could do something to really improve the lives of people of color. How about wearing a face mask that says "School Vouchers for ALL." Oh wait, that would really alienate the teachers union in America.

40 black children killed by gun violence in Chicago so far this year. Where are any of their names on any masks?

Was the killer recruited, trained and paid to 'protect and serve' citizens?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@Mickelicious, it was a home invasion. The residents were able to escape but both officers responding were hit. Bohannon had a wife and three young children.

I don't see BLM or any of these athletes protesting about these real tragic deaths of innocent children. Typical...

@peter Neil

it would have to be a long tournament

Seems a cause beyond tennis has given Naomi something to keep her mind on focus, especially in times when she's struggling

Not much different how religion has given some athletes something to play for than just fame and money, and gives them motivation to keep going when the going gets tough - like ex-NFL QB Tim Tebow and ex-MLB pitcher Mariano Rivera
