Ouch. A co-worker, who hated her and said "She is NOT Japanese!" before she won her first championship, after which he loved her and bragged about her, now no longer speaks about her anymore. Hasn't quite returned to the "NOT Japanese" yet, but it's coming.

Not surprising in the slightest. While Osaka is extremely talented as a player, she lacks the mental toughness to make her one of the greats. Said it from the beginning.

She's been busy designing TAG Heuer watches and collaborating with Nike on its apparel line. No time for tennis.

The difference is that Ash Barty has surrounded herself with real people who are interested in her career whereas Naomi's minders see that sponsors are more important. Barty's lifestyle is much more low key and she is reaping the benefit of such. The issue is, will Naomi ever be released from the corporate bubble to just play tennis- the jury is out.

WTA is much more competitive than Men's ATP. Women's points are almost the same and separated by a single open championship.

Yes and no. According to www.wtatennis.com/rankings, no. 1 Ash Bart y is on 8331 pts, no. 2 Aryna Sabalenka is on 5698 pts. However, after that difference are small.

Osaka has a lot of points to defend from the 1st half of last year (thus dropping points if she doesn't at least equal last year's achievements)
But in the 2nd half of last year when she took breaks off tennis, she doesn't have points to defend, so she can only gain points in the 2nd half of this year (assuming she's playing then)

The article is factually wrong and an assumption by the writer. All US citizens forfeiting citizenship are listed in the national register by law and she is not listed. She has said herself that she is “not technically” a US citizen.

What's the matter, Naomi-chan???
Blacklabel
Oh so it’s not that she loses or quits almost every time she joins, it’s hasn’t made enough appearances.
Yeah that’s what happens when you lose or quit, you don’t appear in that tournament anymore.

Now that Osaka rankings dropped the haters in Japan who said she was not Japanese are now saying Oh sock her!

Lower rank less stress, better mental!

Check your facts, factchecker…
Never was an American. Born in Japan to Japanese and Jamaican parents. You don’t have to be a US citizen to live in the US.
I’ve had a green card for 57 years.

A few people trashing Osaka for her current rankings but remember that Ash Barty took a couple of years away from tennis and came back bigger and batter than ever. Naomi needs the right team behind her and to regain focus and hunger and she can be one of the greats of her time. She has shown she can win more than once.
Do not abandon her now.

Naomi's got the winning mentality... i'm sure she'll climb back to the top in no time

Wish you the best, Naomi, in whatever you do. Such an inspiration on and off court!
