He looks like the type who'd slap his woman around.

Don't let your daughter marry a guy who looks like this guy.

100%. Never liked him, don't like his type. Just a common thug.

People brush off his abuse of ball boys and profanities and threats toward umpires - so I expect they'll find excuses for Kyrgios assaulting a woman, too.

Wow, the judge reducing domestic violence to stupidity.

He pleads guilty and avoids a conviction?

If not for tennis, he'd be in jail or digging ditches.

He’s an ass, always been an ass. Seems like he’s always going to be an ass.

He should be publicly shunned until he shows real contrition and proves that he is committed to change.

Not defending this guy, but two things to think about:

Passari lodged a complaint with police 10 months later, after they had broken up, lawyers told the court.*

Lodged a complaint 10 months later? That's almost a year.

First, she reported the incident to police the next month but did not make a formal complaint, not at all uncommon when it comes to incidences of domestic abuse where the victim feels shame, fear, that they can fix things, believes the abuser who says they will change, etc. Second, maybe she didn't feel safe lodging the complaint until they'd broken up and she felt free and safe from him.

And she only did that when they broke up? Sounds like she got upset over being jilted.

See above.

> Kyrgios was said to have shoved Passari, who was preventing him from leaving her Canberra apartment.

And what if he had been preventing her from leaving his apartment or house?

If someone was out-of-control hysterical and trying to prevent me from leaving their apartment, yeah, I might want to shove them too.

He's a an athlete in fit condition so it's a little hard to believe that he wouldn't have been able to get away from her without having shoved her to the ground. He didn't just shove her. He shoved her to the ground, the pavement. They were outside, not in an apartment, so, again, how hard would it really have been for him to have gotten away from her without shoving her to the ground?
