Tiger Woods apologizes for behavior; unsure of return

Tiger Woods unsure of return is the summary of this article. The sponsors and his well-wishers will have to wait for months and months.

Watched this live last night, and have to ask who is advising him and how much is Woods paying them. It was a bizarre and weird performance that probably made the situation for him worse, not better.

Very classy of the AP for mentioning the former porn-star at the end of the article, and for reducing this seemingly appropriate statement by Mr. Woods back to "circus-status". Thanks for keepin' it real AP!

Seriously, though, Woods should stay out of golf, if nothing else than to not give in to the circus his media attention has become. It would be a blow to the game, but there are other up and comings, and there will be people to replace Woods, perhaps for the better.

The stuff he did was pretty terrible, but terrible for HIS PERSONAL LIFE. Many people committ adultery (perhaps not that many with multiple partners over a short period of time, but hey) and ruin their marriages. Leave the guy to work it out, if possible.

His apology was about as sincere as Hatoyama's or Ozawa's for "causing concern". I lost all respect for Woods as a man. He definitely owes his mom another apology for shamelessly using her as a prop in this made-for-TV event. (Credit to his wife, Elin, for not playing that game.) I will never get up at 5 AM., like I have for the past eight years or so, to watch him play. And I now hope he does not break Jack's record of 18 majors. As a man, he is not fit to carry Jack's golf bag.

Very well orchestrated performance - he looked and sounded like a robot. I agree with herefornow - Elin was a smart woman for not standing "beside her man" and for not playing that game. Tiger is just sorry he got caught - he should just stay out of the limelight permanently. He has a whole entourage that wrote that speech that he probably spent the past 3 months rehearsing!! He sounded "wooden" and insincere. It's unfortunate he had to drag his mother to this "performance".

Not sure why he has to apologize to anyone except to his wife and himself. It's his life, his problems. Another thing the media have blown out of proportion. I read this news and say to myself, "So what?!"

Tiger's private life is no-ones business - I'm not interested if he has 100 partners. The golf is what were are interested in. Very humiliating experience for Tiger - if I were him I wouldnt reduce myself to going back on the circuit and playing the media game again - and having to lower himself to compete against jealous nobodies like Ernie Els.

Herefornow - are you 100 percent sure the great Jack Nicklaus never transgressed in any way in his life? It is possible - and if he did, it would not diminish any of his brilliant achievements in my opinion. Same goes for Tiger.

I stand by what I said, as a man, not a golfer, he does not make a pimple on Jack's butt. And, BurakuminDes, your "what if" scenario is silly. Anything is possible. So what? But, based on the public record, I'd put Jack's sense of personal honor/integrity way ahead of Tiger's. And, since golf is a game of honor, I hope, therefore, that his record stands. Both of you should just ask yourself -- why did the golf writers boycot his performance? Because, they were not going to be associated with this charade. They know the game of golf deserves better than that. You see, you both miss the point. I am not condemning him for being a cheater (Please show me where I even imply this). I am condemning him for the wussy way he is trying to justify it -- "Oh, poor me, I got famous and rich at too young an age". I lost respect because he did not man-up, he hid behind a podium and simply recited a bunch of well-rehearsed platitudes.

No loss over the accenture contract - remember they used to be arthur andersen - the company that gave us global crossing, enron, and a plethora of other non-publicized major frauds (lack of capitalization done on purpose).

I like how people here are defending his "personal" life, as if adultery with multiple partners, let alone not using proterction is somehow "okay" because its his private life. Let's just gloss over the fact that he can't keep his private vows that he made between himself and his wife. Let's just forget that he passed off his image as a squeaky clean family man, all thew while swinging it with nearly 20 other owmen (and made millions off of that squeaky-clean image in the first place). Let's just sweep under the rug that he has broken trust at the most basic level (if you can't keep the trust of your wife, who can you keep trust with?). No, let's, instead, defend Tiger because it is his "personal" life. I agree that there does need to be some privacy, but come on, folks: see the forest for the trees. This is about trust, and if Tiger can break trust with his wife hundreds of times with nearly 20 mistresses, who legitimately believes he'll keep trust with anyone or anything else?

The people I feel sorriest for are the many fans, especially children who looked up to this guy. Sure, his personal life should be personal. However, as a celebrity, he has a certain standard and image to keep. Committing adultery is not a good example to set for kids. Glad he was finally honest about this, but he could've come out and fessed up a lot sooner. It's best that he disappear from the public eye for a long time.

Gosh, World, TW is just another fallible human being - no more, no less - not some sort of god as some in the media and elsewhere seem to insist he is. And, it's not "the many fans, especially children who looked up to this guy," as haoushokuhaki seems to feel who we should feel the sorriest for, but rather the two children who look up to TW and call him "Dad." They have been robbed of one of the most precious, vital relationships and no matter how many days/weeks/years TW spends in rehab for whatever addiction of the day with which he's needing help, no matter how many public or private confessions he makes, those two children will always have to live with the consequences of their father's shame and dishonesty. Ask any child of an adulterous parent(s) what THAT'S like. Such an extrememely selfish, foolish narcissist.

He need not have apologized to the world for cheating on his wife. He only had to apologize to his wife, in private, and shown her over time he was sincere by proving it.

Don't worry about the kids, they are alright. There is not one child in the world who even remotely cares about Tiger Woods' bedroom antics. Neither do I. I find it curious that some people seem rather too interested in other's bedroom activities.....

People all around the world, in every country - yes, including the USA - Prime Ministers, Presidents, Sportsmen and women and ordinary mums and dads, break their marriage vows. It happens. Some estimates are of between 40 - 60 percent. I personally will never, but that is my choice. Even those of you who are ultra-conservative/religious - you still have zero right to judge others. Tiger will come back, shock the world and break every record there has ever been in golf. And you know what? Some of these "morally outraged" critics will come and try and pat him on the back again. Go Tiger!

Exactly. If adultery is good enough for Tiger Woods or these other people, it's good enough for me, and everyone else in the world. Not that I would commit adultery, but now I feel a certain comfort knowing that if I ever stray, all is okay, since everyone else is doing it.

I hope this message gets through the JT public, because there are several posters out there who continue to feel it is there right to "judge people" whether it be athletes, politicians, Japanese, etc. and continue to bash them for things that they do in their personal life. There's a huge difference between judging the person and judging the behanvior.

But you have to remember that behavior is a part of a person. So if you are judging someone's behavior, you are in turn, making a judgement about that person. Without behavior, you can't be a person.
