Suga has repeatedly said there is no evidence linking the upsurge in cases to the Games.
The evidence is that the Games led to people letting their gaurd down cheering and behaving like everything was OK even as cases trended upward. So to say that there is no link is absurd. He knows it, but will continue to play the fool as round 2 of the COVIDLYMPICS is about to begin.

What can you say? …follow the government line and no problem. Might not be true but best to suck it up.

I still have not met anyone that watched them let alone buy something from a sponsor. Most of my friends down at the beach are surfers or bodyboarders, and none of them watched it and the surfing bronze winner lady comes from down there.

To use an analogy, the waiters and chef are still TELLING you ‘how good” your meal was, last week. - Long after it was force-fed down your gullet, you had no choice but to digest it, and finally, the waste has been discarded and flushed. - However, the BILL for your meal is still “due”. And you’ll be paying it, in increments, by automatic-withdrawal, for the remainder of your lifetime.

Should have cancelled the games last year and committed do doing them in 2022, but the world's largest city's health must be put at risk so that like 10 super-wealthy people can earn millions extra. Don't blame IOC, blame spineless weak, old and corrupt politicians.

I have totally enjoyed Not Watching the olympics I watched no events I have no idea what no. of medals any country got I did however get 2 new Chromecasts and a subscription to amazon prime and netflix (1 month free) I must admit i feel better off for doing it.

I don't think people realise how shallow this makes them look.
"I was definitely against the games. But then people from My Country won lots of events. So I became definitely for the games".
"So does that mean you weren't really against them in the first place?"
(sucks air through teeth) "Muzukashii...."

The games were only another form entertainment that was better than the usual junk on TV. The sense of urgency gave way to complacency fostered by the media and their nightly talks of medals, but make no mistake, 'rona always comes back to collect.

A cheap conceit tactic. People especially many voters are sober enough to distinguish the Olympics and politics. The latest polls have shown a record low approval for both the Suga cabinet and the ruling LDP despite "successful" Tokyo Games. The results of the last July Tokyo assembly elections failed the LDP's estimates.

What were the patterned trash bags the staff(?) wore at the closing ceremony?

Suga got the best results he could have hoped for with the record number of medals that the Japanese team won. BUT, that fuzzy sense of relief is not going to last long, as it was the athletes that did the heavy lifting, and Suga is riding on their coat tails. People will soon forget!

The state of emergency, the constant don’t do this, don’t do that forced businesses to close what is this ‘acceptance’ they are talking about?

The maniac desire to hold an Olympics during a pandemic and the economic reality for millions of Japanese people is a massive disconnect.
Having been in Japan for decades I can tell you the situation is dire.

'His wife Yuki, a medical worker, worried especially about the pandemic. But she began cheering when she noticed patients at her hospital beaming as they watched the Games. “I saw the power of sports, and I thought it was wonderful,” she said. “Athletes made outstanding performances, and we wanted to cheer for them.”'
The distraction was a success, for sure. The Olympics, less so, especially since the costs (plural) have not been fully understood yet. We are starting to see it, though. Tokyo will break 5000 cases a day in no time, and the government's going to have to announce very soon how the $15 B US is going to be covered, not to mention that the new stadium likely won't be used for anything in the near future as it'll likely cost an arm and leg to rent.
When you have a health worker looking at the rate of infection at more than 10 times what it was when the Games began, it's disgusting that he or she would say, "I was worried, but later I beamed with pride!" I don't think you can be much more negligent.

It was good, but just wasn't the same without you there.

Shiny shiny shiny medals make the world go round…..

If I was stuck in a hospital bed and some clown wipe turned on the Olympics on a TV in a room you cannot escape from I would have pulled out all the tubes, rolled on the floor, and slither away.

Isn’t it nice they are telling us how we feel?

When the bill comes through to pay for these unwanted games through increased taxes, I’ll be interested to see how many people are so positive about it. I’m still glad it’s over..

I talked to my wife about this topic and I asked her if she thought the Tokyo's Olympic fears gave way to acceptance, to a point. Her response was "TO A POINT" what point? It depends who you are asking? She said most Japanese will not tell you what they really think they will tell you what you want to hear. For example two friends go out and one friend asked the other friend what she thought about her out fit. She said she would say it is cute because that is what the friend wants to hear but in the back of her mind it might be quite the opposite. She said you don't want to spoil the moment so everything is happy. So "the last words TO A POINT" it depends who they are asking and if the person told them their true feelings, which she doubts.

Those who felt intimidated by the unwelcome mood in the beginning began to feel relieved.
“It was a bit scary to get on a train wearing an Olympic volunteer uniform" early on, when people were still more strongly opposing the Games, said Asuka Takahashi, a 21-year-old student who helped at the beach volleyball venue. She felt less tension after the Games started, and thought more people were interested in them than she had initially believed. The only thing a person could be afraid of is the word fear. Personally everyone is afraid of the "UNKNOWN" but when reality set in you have no choice but to accept what is happening and you adjust accordingly with out thing about fear or lets say the outcome!

I got news for the writer Japan HAS & will CONTINUE to pay a price for these games, there FIXED!!
This is absolutely FALSE!! EVERYTHING the govt has done wrt covid since Feb 2020 was done so the games would go ahead! We have been constantly LIED to we really have no idea how many have had covid or died from it . And the lies continue(see above quote!)
While I have not heard of anyone being killed by a bus with the 5rings on front make no mistake these games have & ARE getting people sick & killed. The very reason things are so bad is exactly BECAUSE the govt did everything possible so the games would go on & now the numbers are getting so high the govt cant fudge them fast enough so we can actually see it worsen.
Again these games have definitely killed people & more will die as we have a long way to go .......sadly.....very sadly!

And the result of acceptance is an uncontrollable COVID outbreak ongoing right now.

That sums up the whole thing.

Many people just don't have that strong a conviction in their opposition
They weren't really hardline opposed to it
