Good luck with that.

What a stupid way to go about making any sort of decision. You're not being brave in the face of adversity, you're being a stubborn old man. You're saying that even if Tokyo had 10,000 (official) cases a day, you'd still stick to your ridiculous plan? Pathetic

A source close to Suga said the decision on the games’ fate would be “up to the United States.” The games “would have no sponsors if U.S. athletes are absent,” the source added.

Each athlete could hold an event in their own native country simultaneously, and it could all be connected on zoom.

Joking apart, could something like this be the future.

Other sports are going on, even in the winter when infections are soaring. So it's not very hard to imagine the olympics going on in some shape or form.

Muto Sans pay check talking. Nothing more. What else can he say ?

He is, supposedly, in charge.

"We are not discussing cancellation"- a euphemism for "We are in total denial"

We are not discussing cancellation," he said. "Holding the Games is our unwavering policy, and at this point in time we're not discussing anything other than that."

Translation - we absolutely don't give a toss about public opinion, health or pandemic spread risk to public and athletes / entourage alike as long as we JOC fatcats can continue to suck our overblown pay from J- taxpayers and our LDP crony friends at J-Inc get their pork.

We humbly ask for your understanding , this is Japanese culture.

"If we can hold a big event like the Tokyo Olympics alongside the coronavirus, the Tokyo model will become one of our legacies."

Who is "our" in this case?

Love the comments here. If there is one thing JT readers can agree on its cancellation of the Tokyo Olympics.

if the Japanese govt had started vaccinating a month ago like many other countries maybe they would have a remote chance but they totally blew it.

Suga looks like a deer in the headlights of a speeding bullet train.

Australian Open within a country that has worked very hard to control the spread still had positives, with vastly fewer participants. Utterly laughable that anyone would think holding these games would not be a disaster.

Complete idiot
