Of course an IOC member is going to play it up as much as possible. That is what snake oil salesmen do for a living. I think I'd side with the experts who actually do the real math. Not trying to be a naysayer or rain on the (delayed) parade but everyone saw what happened to Greece and Rio and most other places that host the Games: they spend way more than they make and sometimes end up going damn near bankrupt. Next year, the world may not even have recovered fully, if at all, from the pandemic and many people here and abroad have taken serious financial losses so they are probably not about to go out and spend like they may have before the pandemic. This just doesn't look good. I remember when they asked New Yorkers if they thought the city should bid for the 2020 Games and the result of the poll was a strong "no" vote by the people. They didn't want the financial burden, the extra traffic, nor the extra tourists. New Yorkers did not care about any added "prestige" because we don't need it. Japan was so intent on showing the world how great they are and I have met many people who talked about the Games like they were going to be the highlight of their life. I didn't get it.

When is enough enough? Tokyo is about to face a serious virus problem and they still go on about the Olympics which will not happen in 2021 no matter what they say. Even 2022 is doubtful as all predictions see this lasting till then. World travel is not going to suddenly snap back either. The world will not be the same as 2019 for some time. Better to think about getting money for the hospitals that are almost at breaking point. Better to start trying to save lives than discussing this not happening event.

What a waste of two months trying to get the Olympics to go ahead on time while doing sweet FA about the pandemic. And if I were a cancer patient and about 80 like Mori, I'd be too scared to go out my house, let alone attend all these meetings. Hand your pet project over to someone else, for god's sake. This guy will still be presiding over these useless meetings from the grave.

This is great news. This is karma coming down hard on Japan for trading their culture and industry for some cheap tourist business. They just need to let their women prostitute cheaply and they will be just like Thailand.

It won't happen... the stimulus, I mean. Well, of course, the government will go out of their way to spend and try to make Japan look good, so there will be a stimulus of sorts, but there is no way the economy is going to recover and people will be coming to Japan en masse for hte Olympics, paying 100,000 for a decent seat to a mediocre event. Nope. Had the threat been contained and people starting to go back to work (with no fear of recurrence) now, then maybe it would have started things back up and people would have honestly felt it was the "recovery Games" or what have you. But people will be exhausted, broke, looking for work, and not at all in the mood to celebrate and spend. And, on top of everything else, it's going to devastate a country that will already be in a deep recession by the time it rolls around.

After the economic collapse of the world due to the coronavirus, nobody will have any money to come to Japan for the Olympics.

How manyJapanese Judo players have been infected so far? Most foreign athletes will not risk their lives by competing during a pandemic.

*If the Olympics are still held in the middle of an pandemic then the only teams that might show are the nations that would usually have no chance of winning Gold under normal circumstances.**

For example, Tuvalu might win its first Gold in bobsledding! Vatican will win Gold in Beach volleyball!

The question should be why, on the day after the Olympics were delayed, Japan admitted it had a Corona Virus problem.

Diamond Princess experience, Japan did nothing. Japan knew exactly what this virus could do from this experience.

March 1st close schools only. No other precautions.

Olympics delayed in late March the very next day and we have a problem.

The world and the IOC should look at this and grill the Japanese government as to why? Why were so late in their response? Why were there no testing done? Why were there no masks? Hard questions on Fukushima shshould also be asked.

In my opinion Japan does not deserve the Olympics because of over its poor action during the Corona virus pandemic. Should not be given a chance to host the Olympics, until many decadaes after the government tells the truth over Fukushima and its Corona virus responses.

Politicians who bid for the Olympics are very aware of the fact that the games are a money-loser...huge chunks of all the over-spending somehow manages to end up in certain people's pockets, which is why there were such terrific protests during the Rio games. Imagine that.
