Hotels? They look like brand new Condos in Toyosu to me. They sure did spend a lot of money building those condos just for the athletes now I can see another reason as why they are desparate to host the Olympics.
JeffLee
Athletes with "minor symptoms" of COVID will be allowed to enter Japan and compete?!?
Bjorn Tomention
These idiots in charge are out of their tiny little minds surely ?
Postpone the damn games until 2024 then hold them only if this mess of a virus and the impending war with china are over and done with.
AG
No, for the athletes who get the virus here.
All athletes will be tested every few days.
What happens to the very few that are actually tested in Japan, where the real numbers are not transparent? ......
Ricky Sanchez
Japan: Here is an Idea! Let's put people with MINOR COVID-19 symtoms TOGETHER with people who have NO Symtoms! This way, the people that possibly have the virus, will spread it to the people who have no symtoms!
THIS MAKES PERFECT SENSE!
CaptDingleheimer
What a joke.
Japan. Dude...
Nobody is coming. Nobody is watching. Nobody cares.
Save your money and throw in the towel there buddy.
Kill it before it dies.
Kitchener Leslie
Everything about these Olympics is criminal and heinous. I hope they never happen again after this train wreck. Nobody cares about it or wants it.

Sheeze, look at those buildings. Anyone here who would rather reside in prison?
Sven Asai
No one out there, who can stop that whole insanity? Unbelievable.

Will the IOC be in charge of the testing like doping test, if it is the host country doing the test, it might end up
mired in controversy where a strong contender can be ruled out as positive and an independent
test later on after the event revealing it was a false positive and nothing can really be done as PCR test
are not 100% accurate. The PCR tests should be treated by the IOC with the same importance like doping test.

This article is a ‘soft sell’ about additional “Hotel” moneys being ‘syphoned off’, er,... spent @Oxycodin 4:19p.
(”*Don’t worry Harumi, your ”cut of the loot” is still coming” ; )*Folks, we are witnessing the final stages of “the great cash grab” from the taxpayer’s pockets.
TARA TAN KITAOKA
Please call off the Olympics.
snowymountainhell
The photo is of the looming real estate ‘bubble’ that will ‘burst’ later. Let’s ALL hope these condos were purchased by more ‘corporate sponsors’ than ‘individual’ investors ; ) - (greedy 1%’ers)
Kabukilover
This scenario belongs in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Welcome, Elmer Fudd out to get that d'wat rabbit. You can be sure from the beginning that no matter how extreme and inventive Elmer (representing the Olympic committee) is, Bugs (representing the virus). is going to win.
Jonathan Prin
So a foreign athlete comes to Japan, gets covid positive without any reason since he is supposed to live in a bubble, and gets the rights not to participate to Olympic games.
As far as I know, even if an athlete got the simple flu and felt well enough, he isn't barred from doing his games.
Is that a way to eliminate opponents to gzt more gold medals ? It looks like it.
In_japan
I think Olympic will go ahead no matter what, because organizers have already used most of those sponsor's funding. Just think about those broadcasting rights, ad rights which will be difficult to return as in case of Olympic tickets refund. But J-govt is really playing a dangerous game here, without proper/precise instructions, confused authorities, confused volunteers, confused audiences it gonna be chaos and laughing stock for foreign media. Japan was first country to witness "corona-infection" after China in that cruise ship yet haven't learn anything. I'm getting a picture on those towers... Oh you have mild symptom follow this yellow line. You are negative follow green line. White line for no-results yet group. Red and orange... take the elevator.
GW
PURE..........INSANITY!!!
snowymountainhell
Oh! That explains all the possible Unused ‘test kit’ Hoarding over the last year!
Unfortunately, if they were hoarding test kits, it may also mean the Extremely Low ‘Testing’ Numbers Reported Daily were ‘real’? - Who knows what to believe with all the lying and manipulation that has gone on to date. - Sorry, Japan.
sf2k
hotels and apartments get the most spread. Ships too. Do they not learn anything?
Gregarro Ivinalititavitch
Is the LDP trying to put the Rising Wasabi out of business? They're beyond parody.
Thomas Tank
Oh, there getting around to that just now? Way to be on top of things!
snowymountainhell
Is there still room for the future casinos?
These will do perfect!

met a Spanish guy today at the beach, he's here with some big Spanish Meeja company, making ready for their coverage. there are 80 of them in the team. in the next couple of months this number will increase to 1000 (yes 1000) people, and before the start of the 5-Ringed-Circus they will draft 1000 more. multiply this by however many Meeja companies from all over the world will be involved, piping this epic out to the world..... maybe J-Gov should build another few dozen condos quick.
after the Games, the Spaniards will go back to Spain for a month, then to Beijing, to prepare for the Winter Olympics... to repeat this risky business....
DEGGRE
Are you kidding me?? International students can't enter japan, even with a 14-days quarantine and doble negative PCR tests, while an Olympic athlet with symtoms can enter and live oin an hotel paid by government? Japan, I am sorry but your leaders are completely crazy.
jiji Xx
.....and that's before we start counting the athletes, entourages, and VIPs..... all those hundreds of thousands of bodies waiting to go viral..... and many of them dispersing to venues throughout Japan (for the 'compact' Games, remember), people moving everywhere.... dear oh dear!
Pukey2
So who is paying for all these extra costs?
KevinMcgue
What happened to Games being symbolic of mankind's victory over the coronavirus? Are they implying we won't have ended the pandemic in 10 weeks?
Tora
DEGGREToday
Add to this, even if international students have been vaccinated!!! Just absolutely unbelievable.
Alex
Has the government heard of a term called “ common sense “???
DEGGRE
@Reckless
The problem are the government priorities. There are vaccinated students (like me) who are following online classes from 1AM to 9AM because of jet lag. I am vaccinated, I would stay close in my room for 14 days (and even more, if necessary), I would never be a danger for japanese people. I just ask to be able to study, but after Olympic it would be to late, we are waiting since last year with any information on when we will be able to enter! That's inhumane.
Fuzzy
What a depressing photo. Guess our tax money ran out before they could do some landscaping.
theResident
@Deggre: Surely you mean because of the time difference? Just sorting out the wheat from the chaff here.
Fresh Prince of Japan
The condo complex in the Athletes Village are depressing.
Yes, it is inside Tokyo and very convenient in many aspects, but can't believe someone want to buy an apartment in these buildings after the olympics!
DEGGRE
@theResident
That's only one reason. There are many more: first of all, learning isn't as effective online. Secondly, some acrivities can only be led in presence (I can't graduate until then!). Thirdly, it is about self-organization: after I won a scolarship, I left my job for coming in Japan. I would look for something else, if just Japan said "no international students until date", but I can't because they just keep saying "next week", "in two weeks max". They just don't communicate with population. It's mentally destabilizing, and it's frustrating to see very more dangerous athletes enter with no problem. Simply, japan government doesn't give a **** about education.
gogogo
Minor symptoms doesn't make them less contagious . Minor for one person deadly for another.
Who are the idiots who decided this?
snowymountainhell
And when someone is suddenly positive, will they isolate just the one?
Or, will the whole group get moved ?
Unlikely, but maybe they learned something(?) @sf2k 5:53p.
Perhaps it’s easier to control the infected if they’re isolated on, or near a body of water.
kurisupisu
Kabukilover is right!
It is a LooneyTunes production...
virusrex
Good that the organizers are finally recognizing that it is practically impossible to prevent all cases of COVID between the athletes, at least they are not longer in such denial. Maybe next they can begin to recognize the unjustified pressure the games will bring to the host city at a terrible timing.
Also, considering that professional athletes can experience important reduction of their immunity in competitions, I think it is important to know if the organizers got the medical support and volunteers they were having trouble getting. One thing is to have rooms for mildly symptomatic participants, another would be to have room in the city hospitals in case of an important outbreak.
spinningplates
Rode past these buildings a few weeks ago. To a western aesthetic they look like death incarnate. No plants (yet). But they do face Tokyo Bay, so that's a thing. Reminded me more of Malaysia 15 years ago, or somewhere like that. Maybe they'll sell cheap after being 'Covified'??
CaptDingleheimer
Looks like the kind of apartment building they let you live in in North Korea if you work your way up to a janitorship in Pyongyang.
yoshichuta@icloud.com
So the hotel has had pleased to be guarantee that gives money from Suga government . Also Biden will stay any hotel here in Tokyo during the term of Olympics complying the Suga invitation .
yoshichuta@icloud.com
What please call off the Olympics in your force ?
You mean watching the Olympics including the torch relays ,opening or closing ceremonies & Paralympics all everything boycotted even video recording scenes on YouTube , Media Flash News on live or video don’t you?
Vinke
So many misconceptions in the comments. The village and the hotel meant for the athletes who test to be positive for the virus, are two separate things. The pic is of the village, not of the “covid hotel”. They’re not at the same location. The athletes who don’t have the virus and the ones that do (symptomatic or not, as you can be an asymptomatic carrier, remember), are to be kept separately this way. I see that only in positive light. The covid hotel is meant for those that these positive during,I.e. in the midst of, their stay in Japan.
snowymountainhell
Sure @Vinke. Please tell us:* *Who/What scenario created those misconceptions?
Richard Burgan
How can you have no symptoms if you have COVID? Isn't a positive test a symptom?
virusrex
No, a positive test is a "sign" of the infection/disease, a symptom is something the patient tells to describe his problem.
For example "feeling feverish" is a symptom, having a body temperature of 37.5oC is a sign.
Boku Dayo
Just cancel it. The whole spectacle is already as mess as it stands.
Vinke
Snowymountainhell, err, people not really reading the article properly?
Although granted, I also have inside info on this as well.
kohakuebisu
Admittedly, it does start
Is this a deliberate attempt to avoid expressions like "athletes with coronavirus" and "athletes who've caught coronavirus" for propaganda purposes? For others, the presence or absence of symptoms is irrelevant. Any carrier, symptoms or no symptoms, can pass it on.
Vinke
kohakuebisu
... it also continues as:
as_the_crow_flies
So coy - "a few kilometres from the athletes village" - that could be anywhere from Ota Ku to Koto Ku. Pray do tell where this Corona Hotel is, so we can all make a point of avoiding going near it until a month after the last occupant has left.
