Macron picked the wrong date, it should have been the closing ceremony since Paris is the next host.

Abe visited Rio De Janeiro during its closing ceremony, donning the infamous Super Mario costume.

Other than Macron, other foreign head of states have no reason to visit Tokyo during this era of pandemic.

Lots of propaganda today to support the Olympics.

Lots of propaganda today to support the Olympics.

Last Monday Stephen Wade of AP tweeted there would be a major propaganda push this week. He was right.

"We have to take the torch for Paris 2024 at the end of the Games," she said.

Taking a suitcase full of taxpayers' yen would be more symbolic.

Wonder if he got any encouragement from the IOC to be the poster boy to show how safe it is....

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Another corrupt and rotten politician.

15 ( +16 / -1 )

Wondering if he is gonna have to do the quarantine in Tokyo and then back in France…. Some or many seem to not care at all…

8 ( +8 / -0 )

.perhaps this is when people finally accept that it’s going to happen,

Everyone knows it's likely going to happen, but I don't think they will be able to accept it.

Hopefully it will be as you say, carried out safely, so we can enjoy the summer

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Why?

Just because he can go to places, have fun and all in spite of pandemic, while and you and I can't...

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Of course he will. He has to kiss the rings of Bach and Coates because Paris is hosting 2024...

13 ( +13 / -0 )

it’s going to happen, and that it will be carried out safely, and we can try and enjoy Summer.

Except the IOC is lying, this we know for a fact because buried at the bottom of the news yesterday was the admission that the supposed bubble and daily testing is not going to happen.

A small number of the 100,000 plus will be tested basically only the athletes and some officials.

The rest will on occasion be tested if or when asked and they are to "collect their own test samples" other will not be tested unless the situation is needed.

So much for the bubble and safety.

So the workers, volunteers, and most of those coming from outside Japan will not be in any sort of bubble and will not be tested as promised.

More IOC lies!

8 ( +8 / -0 )

You mention another fact. This daily testing. Care to share the details?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The irony here is if these were the Paris games and France was in a SOE and 60~80% were against holding the games, we would now be seeing riot police in the streets, barricades, burning tires Trucks blocking roads and a national strike!

The French people know how to put their leaders back in their place!

8 ( +8 / -0 )

What exactly did the IOC promised?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

That's a serious question bec as far as I know the playbook is a work in progress if the content of those are what you refer to

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I've read that even before you referred to it all over the place. I was actually waiting yesterday for the detailsof the promise you refer to.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

the playbook is a work in progress

Oh so what you are admitting is they don't know what to do yet and are making it up as they go along but still claiming that the games will be same.

So they cannot actually say the games will be safe because they actually don't have a proper plan.

It's like someone about to test a new high speed car and the date is set and the builders of the car haven't figured out how to stop it but tell the driver "don't worry we are working on it either way your driving it on the scheduled date, good luck".

Because that is what we have right now

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Anyway, I agree with you, the IOC leadership will do everything to further the Olympics, which is why it will be difficult to catch them with an outright lie, but if they slipped, I won't be surprised

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I was actually waiting yesterday for the detailsof the promise you refer to.

I am not one that plays silly games.

So forget the "link please" stuff.

The IOC and TOC in multiple comments and press releases say all those attending the games would be tested daily!

You know that we all know that it was in multiple articles right here on JT.

Now in the event the IOC and TOC actually had planned to do daily testing, the reason they have now pulled back on that it simple.

Tokyo doesn't have the capability to do much over 10,000 tests a day up to now and was expecting to use other prefectures facilities to which they said NO in the same way they said no to reserving hospital beds and space for the Olympics.

Tokyo is now on its own no other prefecture wants anything to do with it!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Let the eat cake.

Can you see the Olympics? - the IOC Officials, dignitaries, guests, politicians, like this, all entry with no quarantine and little restrictions to their sheltered lives, perhaps the only audience at events they choose to go to, and living it up with lavish dinners and parties in their luxury hotels. Meanwhile the athletes locked in their villages except for events , and the rest of Tokyo under SOE with overflowing hospitals. What an inspiration to mankind!

Macron is just a charlatan. He still pushes shutdowns on the entire country of France, but is going to travel to watch the opening ceremony? More only for thee, not for me nonsense.

Oh, but he did lift restrictions on French citizens to allow them to travel further than 10km from home recently. How generous.

And if this situation was France instead of Japan, he would now be hiding in his official residence while riot police hold back the citizens of France in the tens of thousands burning tires, tossing special cocktails, in protest.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

"Why?"

Because he wants to show his support for Japan.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

No, please don't come. Don't being your entourage and I'm sure you won't be staying in the "bubble" Olympic village, so yeah, don't come.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

As the French say, Macron le Maquereau.

He has no morale compass.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

This here. The Japanese are known to be very much sheep and are being taken advantage of , case in point the arrogant IOC proclamations and denial of public opinion by the LDP.

The French though have the wherewithal to protest though. A robust social welfare system, comprehensive unemployment benefits and strong union benefits mean they could take to the streets to fight the neo-liberal Macron's austerity measures.

The Japanese in their harried, overworked state with welfare only for corporations means it is hard to be politically engaged. It is quite a sinister system, very advantageous for the ruling party here, partly responsible for their long term in power with little pushback.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Japan does not need you, Macron. Don't you realize we're in a pandemic. You best stay in Paris.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

It will give him a breather, away from all his problems back home. Never trust a teacher's pet.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Good that he has the courage to set an example, but have they committed themselves to both ceremonies and everything in between?

Quote: “"The President of the Republic (Emmanuel Macron) will be there for the opening", Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu told France Info radio. She said she will also attend the Games, as would French Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer. "We have to take the torch for Paris 2024 at the end of the Games," she said.

One leader is a major propaganda push?

sounds pretty lame to me. Clearly nobody wants these games.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I am not one that plays silly games.

So forget the "link please" stuff.

I didn't ask you for a link. I didn't comment to any of your posts. I'm just listening to what you were saying.

It was incomplete so it didn't make sense.

Multiple, should be easy to provide one then.

He has no choice but to come as Paris organizes the 2024 Olympics. They already have a lot of opposition in France, difficulties sourcing local sponsors.

it is understandable that he comes IF the Games are held.

If the Games are held i will pay my future taxes either in Australia or Switserland as Mr Coates and the IOC are clearly outranking the Japanese government.

These Japanese politicians sit there when Coates says this about organizing under a state of emergency and none of them objects. Incredible.

i have to reread my history. I remember Australia being a colony of the British Empire but i must have missed Japan being a colony of Australia. Oh well, we learn every day

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We dont want you, even your own Country doesnt want you... please stay away.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sucker!!!!!!!!!!! It would be better to do it by a Zoom message.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Welcome Mr. French President. But please do not feel you have the duty to show your support for these Olympics, or for the IOC, considering how much your country paid to have the 2024 Paris Olympics.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Seems somebody is lying after all, but it's not the IOC.

Bad form A.
