At least the men's soccer team won on Thursday — a day before the opening ceremony of the pandemic-impacted games.

Congrats to the mens team for the narrow victory against the quarantined, ill-prepared and psycologically defeated opponent. Kudos to the match officials for the impartial officiating.

As expected the commentaries and reporting after the match was a big disappointment and no where near international standards.

Regardless of everything else, that left-foot curling goal of Kudo’s was spectacular.

“Japan’s Messi” some are calling him, apparently.

Did the K gesture he made mean Kubo, or Kin 金 for Gold?

Brazil looking so strong against Germany. Such energy and speed in attack and defense! Germany looked helpless. The heat?

Caption is wrong about the player standing on the left. Ritsu Doan wears no. 10 and has dirty blonde dyed hair. The guy in the pic is no. 18 and is not even a starting player judging by where he is loitering off the pitch.

Apart from that you are ecstatic with the result. I can tell.

Well done Japan. Off to a winning start.

Shame no crowds. Maybe should have had some sumo on at half time to justify allowing a crowd?

The Samurai Blues have begun their campaign on the front foot. Congratulations to goal scorer Takefusa Kubo. Well played Japan.
