There are no words.

Sure there are!

Pathetic. Embarrassing. Stubborn. Lame.

...and here I thought Japan was all about traditions!

The tradition and passion of the Olympic down the drain because these fools didn’t want to postpone it and now it’s a whole farce! The torch shouldn’t have been lit until the uncertainty of this pandemic was dealt with. The IOC and Japan Olympic Committee are a bunch of idiots!

They forgot to mention on thing in the story. The actual reason is because an athlete (one that I know of) has declined to carry the torch. Read about it in an earlier article on JT.

And in other Futile Gesture news...

Face it. The Olympics aren't happening this year.

Japan Olympic Legacy =

Less active travel and health.

More driving.

They can't see the irony.

An unprecedented problem—Will the torch/flame be returned to Greece? Maintained until 2021 in Tokyo? Or doused as if it never happened? It would be nice if the flame could be kept in Tokyo as a promise by the IOC to Japan, especially after all the investment and efforts they have put into holding (or attempting to) this event.

Under a revised plan, the Olympic flame will be carried by car and placed on display upon reaching its destination each day after it was determined that the existing plan ran counter to government recommendations to refrain from holding large-scale events to prevent the virus' spread,

So, instead of people spreading themselves out along the route they will have all the people congregating at the destination instead. That makes perfect sense, NOT! All this nuttery for games that have already been postponed.

Just imagine this being televised overseas - does the JOC/IOC not realize what a laughing stock this will look like?

So much negativity.

I hope they have a tread mill on a flat bed truck....

Comedy gold!

6 ( +7 / -1 )

This is just dumb.

Why not just run all the Olympic events with the athletes inside cars in the stadium.

Taking farce to a whole new level.

Monty Python would applaud.

If they weren't busy perfecting silly walks.

I am lost for words.

Wow... how incredibly sad. And when they postpone the Games, are they going to do the whole relay again just because they need to appease old man Mori right now with this pathetic display, driven in a car? Why not just do it next year, and next year alone, when the Games will be postponed too? Seems pretty stupid to hold this event a year in advance when there are FAR more important things going on and they can't do it right anyway.

It's a near certainty that if one of the two spectators in the top photo have coronavirus, the other one has it too.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

No longer matters. As of now 1 year delay is officially happening

...and here I thought Japan was all about traditions!

Only when it’s theirs apparently.

Make it next October.

What about the fishermen in Fukushima!

代車 or ダサイ? Just in: Summer Olympics postponed for 1 year.

I'd like to see the flame kept lit in a cauldron in Tokyo for the next year as a symbol, and then start the relay again next March as had been originally scheduled, with hopefully all the chosen torchbearers still available to take part in the relay.

Turn around, cancelled!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

So much negativity.

-4( +2 / -6 )

Apparently, it would seem to be that way.

The Olympic flame was lit on the ancient grounds of Olympia, Greece on March 12 and arrived in Japan last Friday.

Just light another one next year. Good grief, what nonsense.

What is the point of taking commemorative photos (top photo) with a piece of paper slapped across your faces?

What make of car? To the highest bidder?
