It's also amazing to see the three Jamaican sprinters dominate the podium.

Another amazing Jamaican sprinter.

Would have liked to see USA leave a footprint, but honestly, seeing all three positions taken by Jamaica blew my mind. Congratulations are truly in order!

Not the World record but the olympic record held by Florence Griffith .Was lucky to watch this race where the first 3 were Jamaicans. This women's 100 meters was the real showpiece of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics watched by a World television audience in a empty stadium. One event for the " Bucket list" of everyone watching it live on T.V.Ahoy !

Should the headline not have said "...... should have beaten ....." or ".... could have beaten ...."?
Am I the only one who is confused?

Congratulations! Flo Jo is still fastest, but this was amazing to see.
Fighto!
That was the coldest reaction to a winner I have ever seen from the runners up. And they are supposedly teammates! No love lost in the Jamaican team towards Thompson it seems.

All those woman have incredible muscles.
We talk everyday about covid, but I would like to know how many doping controls are done everyday

They competed for all of 11 seconds. You can just about win one point in 11 seconds of playing tennis. Eyes rolling.

Well, that last part I agree.

Cool Runnings indeed!

Better living thru chemistry. The Jamaican drug testing regime has been teetering on scandalous. During the pandemic, the lack of doing so has been notable, there is an article in the NYTs addressing just that.
FloJo, who owns the world record: individuals, I knew, working in sports medicine in kinesiology and biomechanics who were in attendance when FloJo was training for the Olympics, determined that the increase in her speed, muscularity and the large reduction in time of her sprints was only possible thru the use of PEDs. In consideration of her age and previous times, there was no training scheme that would allow such an increase in performance.
The presence of advisors who are and have been involved in doping scandals in the Jamaican training program is more than curious. Dr. Paul Wright, a senior doping control officer with Jadco who has 30 years of experience of drug testing in sport, has expressed concern about the failures of Jamaican drug testing in sport - that it fails the required rigors of testing. The number of Jamaican athletes who have tested positive in the past, include Powell, Simpson and others, most recently the high school phenom Briana Williams.
As Examples: One may recall Marion Jones, who had been accused of doping in high school, was defended by no other than Johnny Cochrane of O.J. infamy - Jones continually claimed to be clean and supposedly tested so. All of which turned out to be a lie. Same with the notorious Lance Armstrong.

Aaaaargh! I had blissfully forgotten the existence of that movie and your comment made me remember its existence again. Literally the worst movie I have ever seen, by an absolute mile.

Good to see that suspicious record broken.
Mr Kipling
Didou.....
Doping tests at the event are for show. They are almost completely pointless. Tests need to carried out when the athletes are using the drugs which is in the lead up. In a 5 month period before the London Olympics the Jamaican anti doping agency carried out ONE, thats right, just ONE out of competition test.
Shelly-Anne Fraser Pryce got a ban in 2010, Yohan Blake, Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter, Sherone Simpson.....
Sprinting is not the cleanest of sports, and in the anti doping community, Jamaica, is, not held up as a shining beacon, shall we say.

Jamaica 1, 2, 3.
Podium covered in black, green, and gold. :)

As to the many comments speculating on use of performance enhancing substances, it is high time we did away with restrictions and instead encouraged their use.
As every citizen on the planet is being encouraged to take experimental drugs purportedly to stem the spread of Covid, why should athletes be prohibited from using similar means to achieve their goals?
World records could be falling in every event, television ratings would increase and untapped markets for advertising could be created.
Mr Kipling
Here is one of the worlds leading experts in performance enhancing drugs, and how to avoid getting caught. Well, he was the supplier for most of the US track users, baseball, NFL and boxing. See what he has to say about Jamaican track........ Mr Victor Conte...

Very true ... Frayser and Jackson looked like they were absolutely taken aback and surprised... Just a pat on the back to the winner.... After that the winner was mostly left to herself .. whatever the inside story, there was no 'team spirit' visible whatsoever
