Well the USA was always going to outgun Australia when the Aussies got rid of their firearms years ago.

Australia got game crisp execution and tight focus. The Australians showed Team USA some defensive looks they'd clearly saved, unveiling double teams and speedy rotations that got American team on its heels on the first half. I respect the Australian team. They could have beat many NBA teams today for sure.

NBA players are allowed to compete in all FIBA 3x3 official competitions, including the Olympic tournament. This said, they need to comply with the eligibility rules.

And you would not college players on team USA in a basketball event. Not senior players anyway.

No one knows really but young players at that level from teams like........

Illinois, Baylor, Michigan, Alabama, Houston, Ohio St. Iowa,

Like I said no one knows but put up some of Americas best college players in the Olympics

Those young cats may decimate the Olympic playing field if motivated for country.

“Why are NBA players allowed to compete in an amateur contest? The US team should be comprised of college players, not professionals.”

Same goes for the Japanese baseball team.

the Olympics? amateur? hasn't been that for a long long time....

You do realize our team is comprised in this way and the how and why.

USA Basketball selects players to represent our country in international competition with the skills, character, experience, and desire to win.

“We build teams that are versatile and resilient in the short, intense competitions we face. We’re fortunate that this group of elite athletes has volunteered to represent us in Olympics.

-Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the USA Basketball Board.

Isn't that what the Olympics is about? Sending your best or near best to represent your country?

If I may say from the time I saw the "Miracle on Ice" hockey game during the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. And I was present for this game and at rink as young boy. I sat just behind blue line three rows up. As an American I have always believed our Olympic athletes win medals for country.

And you have to believe when the boys rallied today to beat our Australian friends. It was for country.

Had it gone the other way. The Australians do it for Australia and you have to respect it. Its not about the players. Its about the desire to win for your flag and her citizens.

And I saw Jrue rally the team today for country. I was 9 years old when Jim Craig rallied the U.S. team over the Soviets' to win, I saw that same thing from Durant and Jrue today. They win for America.

The Olympics began allowing professional basketball players after the Soviets shocked the US many Olympics ago, and I'm guessing the Americans whined about it.

This game was expected to go either way, so this is a big win for USA, which is missing several of the best players in the world. A great performance by Durant in particular,

@expat Beg your pardon!!! Some of the other teams Olympic teams have NBA players its not just the US.

It would have been cool to see U.S. play Sloveni and Luka.

The Olympics began allowing professional basketball players after the Soviets shocked the US many Olympics ago, and I'm guessing the Americans whined about it.

That was 1972 (when the refs couldn't even explain why they replayed the last play not once, not twice, but 3 times to give Russia 3 chances to win)

The US didn't use NBA players till 1992 - that's a 20 year gap!

Besides, the USSR wasn't using amateur players neither - their players were getting paid by the state - they've had players in their 30s! What amateur plays up to their 30s unless their getting paid

That's why the Olympics did away with the amateur thing - how can you differentiate between being paid by the state or by a club?

Or how can ya differentiate between college players with sponsor money or club money? Luka Doncic was being paid by Madrid since he was 13!
