"Japanese actor Naoto Takenaka pulled out of his scheduled performance in the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics at the last minute over concerns his comedic depiction of a blind man more than three decades ago"

This is getting ridiculous.

"getting" ridiculous? We've long passed that stage, my friend.

I have a confession.

I once used the word “niggardly” and there was a black person present.

I will withdraw from the world and live on a mountaintop for the rest of my life.

Comedy is being ruined. Poor comedians. PC is destroying the human character. Screw PC garbage.

Ridiculous, this political correctness has gone way overboard across the world.

We all make mistakes when younger. We learn and move on. Comedy especially challenges boundaries. And doesn't neccesarily reflect true thinking. Could be irony or parody. But Mori's statement just last year exposed his real thinking! Why was he a guest at the opening ceremony? All window dressing. And bonus let's get a 'half' to light the flame. More window dressing

First the dropkick musical director being sacked over historical child abuse revelations, then the opening ceremonies Director's sick past Holocaust "jokes" ...now this awful man having ridiculed visually impaired people.

This Olympic circus, particularly the officials chosen to lead it, is truly rotten.

What's next?

Ludicrous, immature and regressive. PC gone mad, the lunatics have taken over the asylum

PC run wild, utterly farcical. Comedy is comedy, and if “perceptions” have “moved on” it is inappropriate to apply the current attitudes to what was “perceived” as acceptable at a point in the past. If he did it today it might be right to criticise him, dependant on context.

Shouldn’t have revealed it, TristisQ. Now avoid to tell them what mountain… lol

Japanese actor Naoto Takenaka pulled out of his scheduled performance in the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics at the last minute over concerns his comedic depiction of a blind man more than three decades ago could draw a backlash, his management agency said Thursday.

For heavens sake why?

Naoto Takenaka management agency crass cynical, political shenanigans must be take for their face value.

We all make mistakes when younger. We learn and move on.

It was socially acceptable at the time. Not anymore.

Few people like to be singled out for ridicule.

A joke made 30 years ago is affecting the Olympics today?

I didn't see that one coming!

The comedy of a blind man behaving violently is a staple of the famous Canadian show Just For Laughs Gags.

All this masochism over something that one has done 30 years ago is ridiculous. I can only imagine what I have said or done over the past 30 years that someone might pensive as derogatory. Therefore I should whip myself with barb wire as repentance.

One can't judge the past with today's standards.

If I posted words that were used as titles for working with those without normal mental functions here, but are on my graduate transcripts, I would be called off topic, crude, rude, vulgar etc., but I am proud of my three graduate degrees and the classes I took to get them.

The PC game has gone too far, and when it disrupts comedy, then time to find a new planet.
