Unlike the overpaid overrated Indian cricketers who were busy earning their millions in IPL during the second wave, and who lost the WTC final to NZ recently, it is a nice tribute to the country from the hockey Olympians from humble backgrounds who would probably go back to their lives of anonymity once the dust has settled -

As the whole team and as coaches, we would like to dedicate this medal to our doctors and (health workers) who have been sacrificed for us and saved so many people’s lives there in India and everywhere in this world. So we would like to dedicate this medal to those warriors.

Bravo team India. Fantastic achievement.

India captain Manpreet Singh dedicated the medal to the country’s healthcare workers in the midst of the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

That's great Captain but knowing India, the ones who'll be taking credit for this will be the the Indian politicians sitting at the top with rest of the people around him shouting "modi hai tho mumkin hai".

From a 1.36 billion population, you would expect them to have one hell of a strong olympic team like China and getting medals like crazy. Instead they are going crazy for a bronze medal. I wonder why India isn't that focus on sports. But congratz on the hockey game.

"From a 1.36 billion population, you would expect them to have one hell of a strong olympic team like China and getting medals like crazy."

India is not China and will never be. A poor country like India does not have the basic infrastructure for sports (except cricket) and most of the potential talents do not get the opportunity, encouragement or financial support to devote their lives to sports.

"Instead they are going crazy for a bronze medal."

If you are not an Indian you will never understand. India used to be a powerhouse in field hockey and won numerous medals many decades ago but the decline of hockey in the country was quick and seemed irreversible, so the bronze means more than a gold to those who long for a return to the glory days of Indian hockey.

"I wonder why India isn't that focus on sports."

Maybe you don't know how crazy India is about cricket, which is also not a good thing since it takes away all talent, resources and attention from other sports.

Life is a precious gift. Risking their own lives, health care workers and frontline warriors are serving fellow Indians with distinction. Dedicating the hard-fought-and-won Olympic medal to honor the heroic Covid fighters is a noble gesture. Well done Hockey India.

"From a 1.36 billion population"

If numbers were everything then China would dominate World Football; citing just one of those many sports they are not good at all.
