These games MUST be cancelled. Doctors advise it and it is the will of the vast majority of people. If they go ahead, then it makes a mockery of so-called democracy in Japan. There is NO GOODWILL towards these doomed games at all.

Crooked Bach is too scared to visit Japan for the next 7 weeks, the coward. He and corrupt Coe should be banned for life from Japan.

Organizers could allay ALL public anxiety by cancelling the Games.

Hear Hear!

So July 12 he is coming? does this guarantee some time of quasi semi state of concern and emergency until July 11?

or is that toooo obvious so July 1?

22 ( +23 / -1 )

It will be interesting to see what the positive numbers look like in the next 7 weeks. I sense there will be some number manipulation going on.

29 ( +29 / -0 )

what a douche-bag this guy is.

30 ( +31 / -1 )

International Olympic Committee vice president John Coates said in a letter to officials published late Wednesday that Bach would arrive on July 12 -- less than two weeks before the virus-postponed Games are set to begin.

Like a very well compensated thief in the night

I'm sure Bach is going to get a warm welcome. (Sarcasm) I wouldn't be surprised at the protests. This protesting is rare for Japan. If he can skype, then what's the point of the physical visit. Just move the camera around the venues. Saves us taxpayer money.

22 ( +22 / -0 )

Bach had originally planned to visit in May, but was forced to scrap the trip with parts of Japan under a virus state of emergency.

Seriously, can anyone imaging the SOE ending on May 30th as planned?

Its quite likely the current emergency will be extended till early July, so he rescheduled for mid-July so that he won't need to embarrassingly cancel again.

24 ( +24 / -0 )

Purpose of visit: receive envelopes of untraceable cash.

Government here still uses fax so impossible for them to figure out a Bitcoin transfer.

28 ( +28 / -0 )

No need to come as no games are held.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

I am strongly lobbying and arguing for postponement. If IOC pushes this through in 2021 the backlash will be the beginning of the end for the Games. Only a postponement to 2022 can mid term save the games and the IOC. Beijing will be a tainted event, In Paris the public opposition will even grow heavier so, if the IOC is clever they go for a successful 2022 Tokyo Games. It is their only saving grace

21 ( +22 / -1 )

Please do not come. You are an unwelcome guest together with your cronies. You are obviously concerned about the millions and the sponsors and NOT about human lives. I wish an independent firm could audit such a corrupt and intransparent organisations.

Why do they wear masks, they obviously don't care about health of others.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Thousands of new coronavirus cases diagnosed across Japan today. Nearly 700 in Hokkaido, 198 in Okinawa, and many people died yesterday and in the night.

But Olympic must go on.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I hope Bach has booked refundable flight tickets for 12 July.

Knowing him he won't like to lose $$ on the flight tickets if the Olympics are cancelled.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

So he arrives way after it is too late for the Japanese to tell him they want to cancel.

im sure that was behind the decision.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Bach and the rest of the IOC are now pariahs, disgusting human beings.

Why do they wear masks, they obviously don't care about health of others.

Its all virtue signaling - am positive all of these so called "leaders" are already fully vaccinated but must show their faces with masks...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Bach cancelled his trip to Tokyo next week because of the state of emergency. And yet he doesn't think that is a reason to cancel the Olympics?

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Forcing the Games to be held this year no matter what is beyond ridiculous. The only thing that can possibly be driving the decision to go forward against all common sense is arrogance and corporate greed.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Come and see the sights, get wined and dined, bump elbows and have photos taken. All this and more at other peoples expense when you become IOC chief. No conscience or morals required. Apply now for the 2024 games.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

The Games need to be postponed cause there is a possibility that people in Japan would blame athletes not refusing to attend the games. It’s actually happening today.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

One can still hope the games are cancelled before he comes.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Never before in the history of the Olympics where the majority of the CITIZENS of the host nation voted NO to the games and the games went on, this will be the MOST disliked, and unwelcomed Olympics in history.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Not welcome by more than 75% of the Japanese people??? Is he coming to pay the bill for the health staffs that i.o.c will provide in advance???.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

The Coronalympics. Where there's two events, face saving and the 100m vaccination hurdles. J gov and IOC disqualified from both.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

after he was forced to cancel a planned trip this month over virus restrictions.

They don't see the irony.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

So the quasi games are going ahead still with this quasi bunch of govt idiots, pretending all is well.

Maybe the public need to be doing a bit more urging of the govt to cancel these stupid games .

Or maybe a stern request might work, or perhaps a lockdown of the govt ?

This is all realy too silly to be trying to expect the public to accept this idiocy of holding the games while there is such a dilema of not having a decent leader in the govt while there is a disaster unfolding in such slow motion.

The Olympics could become a super spreader event world over AGAIN, should the athletes become affected and return to their countries. !!! Lets hope not!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

You're not wanted. The games are not wanted. What IS wanted is for the incompetent government to listen to what the people want. Cancel the pork-barrel games and make vaccines freely available to everyone.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I do not like Olympic games because this has become 90% politics and money.

However I understand sport fans who like it and spotswomen and sportsmen who train hard for this milestone.

Most of the athletes and their cohorts will be vaccinated by that time.

The one, and the only, one who should have handle it properly failed dramatically: Japan Governement.

With a reasonable vaccination rate of, let's say 40-50%, the games could be handled safely.

With proper vaccination in Japan, the Olympic would not be a super spreader.

Then, honestly I personally will not watch anyting of the Olympics, but that is just my usual choice.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Just postpone them until 2022. And get vacinating.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Welcome back Bach. Blech!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In order to thoroughly test incoming IOC members for coronavirus pattern, perhaps it would make sense to use anal swabs...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

A belated gesture from a Cash Hungry Preditor.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I understand he's bringing large garbage bags to put all of the cash in for the return flight.

Come on people, this is the Olympics. Pay up and get teary-eyed at the opening ceremony.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

“Around 78,000, they said, would arrive from abroad -- including about 15,000 Olympic and Paralympic athletes, coaches, backroom staff, officials, IOC members, media and broadcasters -- down from an original estimate of 200,000.”

That’s about 93,000 coming in and 18,600 which is 20% will not be vaccinated?

The chance of any of these non-vaccinated 18,600 people coming in to Japan is a huge number to pose probabilities as carriers of COVID-19.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

18,600 of the 93,000 coming in should test and quarantine for at least 10-14 days if they want to come in unvaccinated. And at their cost. Or cost if the IOC since they want to participate or attend without the vaccination prior to coming in.
