Japan has Finally put a priority on testing ... for visiting foreigners.

Did anyone watch Junk Sports last night? Hideki Matsuyama was on there after winning the Masters Tournament. My question is what happened to the 14 day quarantine for all people entering Japan? The tournament ended April 11 which was already April 12 in Japan, I'm not great at math but 25-12 is 13 right and that's of course assuming he went directly from the golf course to the airport that Sunday night in the US. And the 14 days starts the day after you arrive here BTW. Maybe I am missing something and there is a special exception for famous people. I'm happy he won the tournament by the way.

What about people who live in Japan? Do the regular citizens get tested? Let me answer that...NO..because if you test to many people the truth will come out that Japan has hundreds of thousands cases of Covid19.

Ah the friendly games.

Head out of sand?

Why? Is there a problem? You wouldn’t think so with the criminally low testing going on in Japan’s own country.

The hypocrisy of this is sickening.

Will Japanese athletes be tested?

Lol, ha ha ha ... Yeah... If they cough dry and uncontrollable for a month maybe :)

10 ( +10 / -0 )

too much testing will show up some positives.

wonder if they can replace the positive ones fast enough.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Why, so they are proven safe in a country that is not when they arrive?

The defeat in the by election might move Suga and the LDP to finally postpone the games. If they don’t read this warning they will be ousted from power in the election.

What athlete in his right mind wants to go through all this foe a devaluated games

Nice catch.

Yeah, he returned to Japan on April 13, so he should be in quarantine till tomorrow.

But sports stars and politicians are different, didn't you know?

PM Suga returned from the US last week. No quarantine for him either (or his entourage), even though a vaccinated person can still be a carrier of the virus.

They also need some fast testing, but not for corona, more for their severely damaged brains.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

They also want 500 nurses for the games. What a joke.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

ah yes, well Japan has everything under control if you exclude Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Sapporo.

We want Resident vaccinations more than anything else in the world.

Head out of sand?” - Yes, @gogogo 7:13am, - When it’s ‘out of the sand’, it’s only to be up the IOC’s buttress of the holding the Olympics “at any cost.”

Nihon e youkoso. Please submit your declarations, immigration forms to the authorities along with proof, in duplicate, of negative PCR tests before stepping foot off the aircraft.

Please refer to the provided list of banned items including questions about our COVID testing programs, our use of antigen tests for Japanese Nationals, and dangers inherent to your stay in Japan.

Thank you for visiting our Japan, we welcome outsiders with open masks and hope our time together is as short as it is sweet. We at NRT/HND hope to see you again - as soon as possible!

Don’t forget your Corona-chan mascot plushies - available in gifts stores, or preferably available online.

If athletes etc. aren't being quarantined in Japan, the least we can ask of them is to be PCR tested before they fly to Japan. No one of the saliva tests that many countries use.

I would prefer the Games cancelled, of course.

It only takes ONE infected person to infect a stadium.

No it doesn't.

But, let's play your game just for fun: we need to find that person and put a stop to this.

Professional athletes are exempted of the quarantine rules.

The sport federations required that to the government due to the need for frequent travels. The federations must ensure they do regular testing and after arrival in Japan, they must stay in a kind of bubble and isolate from the general population, but can continue their training. Not sure how long they must isolate.

It is unfair for sure, and the same does apply to politicians.

@divinda yeah unfortunately there can never be a full proof system it appears, unless we are all following the rules from the top to the bottom. That will never happen of course. I did my two weeks as they asked me to, it sucked but I made it through and back to life as normal.

@RobLib: I agree with you about Matsumoto and not doing the 14 days. Don't forget that Suga did not wait for at least two weeks after his second jab before flying to the US to meet Suga. We are not part of the elite crowd. Sorry. They are special and things they do smell like roses.

@A Johnson: You forgot to mention that, "If you are an athlete, check the box off that says you are exempt from being penalized for bringing in stimulant drugs!"

in Japanese doctors discussion chat room, the problem is not so much nurses, but servers shortage of doctors.

Are there any plans to inoculate the Japanese athletes and support staff?

The New York Times reported yesterday that in the US close to 40% of adults 18 years and older are now fully vaccinated, and shots are available for all adults who want them. What is the corresponding statistic for Japan?

more testing, but with a longer time threshold/opportunity to become infected?

Japan wants more pre-departure testing for Olympic, Paralympic teams......

........because no on in Japan is getting vaxed?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

to be tested for the coronavirus twice within 96 hours

This is sensible as most tests are not 100% accurate and it takes between 48hrs to 2 weeks for the virus to present and detected even though, but after less than one hour a carrier can start spreading.

Unfortunately this research doesn’t include the vaccine resistant Brazilian variant or the new double spike Indian version.

@didou thanks for clarifying, I thought their might be some special exemption for them just wasn't sure. FujiTV must know that too otherwise they wouldn't risk the backlash. Pro athletes do get tested more frequently from what I've heard. Glad he won still.
