beyond embarrassing!!!!!
sakurasuki
How they supposed to do in order to get those medals? They need to play in close with other players so where is social distancing?
Brent Forrest
While we're going whole hog on artificiality, they should pump the smell of fresh churros into the stadium
Some dude
They will literally go to any lengths to debase these games rather than, y’know, doing the smart thing and postponing them again. Or better yet just forgetting about the whole debacle.
purple_depressed_bacon
This just keeps getting sadder and sadder. I bet it's not even enjoyable for the athletes anymore - all of these changes and restrictions. Why couldn't they just postpone it to next year if they so desperately wanted the Olympics to be held?
Tom Doley
Fake crowd noise? Thanks Suga and Bach for ruining the Olympic games.
Aly Rustom
Well said!
Just plain STUPID at this point.
Tora
Meanwhile the athletes will self-test each morning. And it's just an antigen test. Not even a PCR!
Wth is going on in this circus??
BitHed
I can feel us all heading more and more into the whole 'user experience' Olympics where we do it in our own living rooms ala Ready Player One and the very recent Olympic Virtual Series .. The actual 'physical' Olympics is becoming so watered down for all involved .. "Open Sachet 1 NOW for the smell of chlorine and lycra togs .."
Some dude
I wonder if the “fake crowd noises” will be modeled on Japanese sports?
”Faito! Ganbare! Heeeeeeh?”
Richard Gallagher
The entirety is simply bizarre. An international sporting even aka The Olympics, in the midst of an ongoing pandemic. Noted in several news posts, including JT, numbers of infections are climbing worldwide at this very moment.
Artifice is becoming key to these games. Along with the façade of keeping athletes & attendees from foreign countries in a bubble.
There are teams and staff throughout the country from Hokkaido to Kyushu. Sequestered in hotels. The team from China indicating that the team was not isolated from the staff & public, that there were frequent interactions that violated protocols.
Simply put: the teams which range far and wide are dependent on bus drivers. You can chart out the bus driver's contacts and see where that leads.
Richard Gallagher
Maybe teams should remain at home and all the competitions will be enacted on blue screens, employing A.I., and holograms.
Tell_me_bout_it
This will be the worst and most depressing games in history.
Pukey2
And canned laughter too!
And the medals will come on a sushi conveyor belt. Or is it belt conveyor?
InspectorGadget
This is turning into an Olympics with no honour and no glory.
Canned crowd noise, distancing on the dias, you just get handed a medal from a distance . . . . .
shogun36
Why even have people hand out medals?
Just put them on some clothes lines, let them hang and the winners can claim them through the honor system.
Why pump in noise? What is this? An 80's TV sitcom?
Let the "elite" cheer for them. Let Bach and Suga be cheerleaders.
Do the hustle
This is getting more and more like a sit-com. Now, they even have recorded cheering.
El Rata
Pathetic games, if the athletes had some dignity left they would leave before competing.
AManInJapan
Why not just say "Your medal is in the post"..
This will be the most boring, sad, pitiful games ever.
Aly Rustom
Do you really want to see those 2 in cheerleader skirts and pom poms? that's the stuff nightmares are made of
YeahRight
I think they are just making all this up as they go along. Absolutely no organization to any aspect of this debacle.
starpunk
Ever hear that 1980 Police song 'Don't Stand So close to Me'?
Crowd noise piped in, just what we needed! Taped cheering. Ever see that STAR TREK episode where gladiator contest officials on a 20th Century Roman Empire planet did that stunt? Repulsive.
yoshichuta@icloud.com
Only the medal presentation no cut off
IOC & FIFA different response keep occupied in war of nervousness against the Delta virus ?
yoshichuta@icloud.com
As a King of the IOC Empire , he may have a strong confidence regarding this way introduces .
yoshichuta@icloud.com
And so then the medal value declines to the bottom .
Anyone doesn’t want to get the Olympic Medal and no one wants standing up on the podium in this performance style forcibly to the Olympians .
yoshichuta@icloud.com
Totally taste less
Have no accomplishment at all
The medal must hung around the necks on the podium
Sven Asai
Yes, that’s the solution, everyone can live with. Fake not only the crowd’s noise, but also the whole video footage. And first of all cancel that damned virus super spreading event immediately.
yoshichuta@icloud.com
Gold , Silver , Bronze Medal , etc later sends by any courier to the Olympic Village probably would like to do that really .
Asking the Olympic Sponsor, Yamato
Transport !!
Kumagaijin
I guess its too late to have some cute robot put the medals around their necks, but this is beyond embarrassing. Oh, will they have to wear a mask too?
as_the_crow_flies
Can’t we just have some wide show Heeeees, Sugoooiis, and canned manic laughter, and a couple of inserts at the bottom of the screen showing some Johnny’s nonentity gawping with a half opened mouth, or doing those little 3−year old clapping in front of the face performances they must teach at talent school? The way this is going, it might even lift the tone of this whole circus. And that is saying something.
Kumagaijin
The athletes' necks will be so stiff from the cardboard beds that this actually might be a good idea since they won't have to bend their necks down for the medal.
starpunk
Some way to welcome your guest athletic stars! It's like a kick in the face to the foreign athletes, never mind the danger of superspreading and risking their own lives and others. Japan is going to come out of this looking dumb and stupid. And since the best players won't be playing anyway, this whole deal is a total sham. This will put Japan to shame.
Yes, exactly. Put it off until next year. It's going to be a disaster if PM Suga doesn't stand up like a man and resist the demands of the IOC. He needs to quit kissing their fannies and take responsibilty, or it'll blow up in his face.
