The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) on Thursday announced details of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic flame arrival ceremony that will take place at Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) Matsushima Base in Matsushima, Miyagi Prefecture, on Friday March 20.

The Olympic flame will be welcomed by children from the cities of Ishinomaki, Matsushima and Onagawa. The Blue Impulse aerobatic team will trace the five-ringed Olympic symbol in the sky with colored smoke trails, and the JASDF Central Band will perform songs including the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay Background Music “Hope Lights Our Way”.

Before the Olympic flame arrives in Japan, a flame lighting ceremony will be conducted on March 12 at the Temple of Hera, on the site of Ancient Olympia in Greece. After a torch relay in Greece, a flame handover ceremony will be held at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens on March 19. After leaving Greece, the Olympic Flame will be transported to Japan aboard a special aircraft named “TOKYO 2020 Go” for the occasion.
