So, let's get this straight - the Great Firewall of China blocks its citizens from seeing foreign social media platforms, and then suddenly there's a barrage of posts from China on those foreign social media platforms?

Did Kyodo get the translation wrong? Because the opposite is true. Judging is subjective. It's based on objective criteria, of course. But, that criteria is interpreted subjectively.

It is subjective. But it also seem to be affected by the athletes performances throughout the season (regional/world championships), so consistent athletes like Hashimoto will get higher scores even with small mistakes.

You only have to read some of the nationalist Japanese posts on here though to know it's not only the Chinese

Nationalism by Japanese during the Olympics is not making any news anywhere. Chinese nationalism is.

A Twitter search for his name in Simplified Chinese is full of images that slander him. 

Posts tagged with his Instagram are also terrible.

Considering the fact that most of his(her) comments regarding nationalism from China is on thread that talks about China's issue, it is more than normal to adress this subject my friend.

I'm pretty sure that if the subject were regarding Japanese song the content of his or her comment would not be "anti country thing".

I remember during one Olympics (London?) the GB team was robbed of a silver after Uchimura messed up his pommel horse routine but his coach waived some money at the judges and his score was upped!

People were upset on that Date that the Fig's judging of the first Seed was the Pits? This argument doesn't bear fruit.

If the chinese have enough evidences, they should sue the judges. Otherwise, keep going.

I'm not on position to judge what is right or wrong because I don't know all the rules regarding gynastics. What I can tell is that supporters can't say things without expressing emmotion over reasons.

Nationalism is a very common sentiment in events like Olympic Games and the Chinese complaining about games is not a new thing.

The results are results. Nothing can be done to change it, especially if they are true and accurate.

Now I know that it is really sour to hear that the athlete you are cheering for was outperformed, but we must not complain. Sports is not something to complain but to praise each other and respect each other.

Though it got fair over the years, it has been a common practice to slightly advantage the host country, especially when a score is given by judges.

I have watched team several events involving China. How come they are able to have stands with many noisy "staff members" screaming and cheering for them? Perhaps they should be thankful for being allowed to bend the rules instead of complaining constantly.

Critics on social media took aim at Hashimoto's performance in the men's all-around final on Wednesday, in particular his score of 14.7 on the vault despite stepping off the mat on the landing.

This isn't the first time something like that happened and it won't be the last. I don't know how accurate those claims are this time around but they will keep happening with sports where judges award the points for the athletes' performances. The lack of transparency does not exactly help either.

You could take the wind out of the critics' sails by providing more information. Tell the viewer before the event what kind of point deductions there are. Show them the composition of the judges. And last but not least give people access to the scores of the athletes in detail. If the deductions align with the with what people were shown before and what they have seen, it will be harder to make unsustainable claims.

What the heck these morons want to do with directing their anger at him? He didn't judge, he performed.

I never need an excuse to bash the Olympics (any Olympics, not just this one. They are all a waste of taxpayer money and do nothing but promote nationalism and discord), but here's just another example. My country is better than your country. Your country hosts the games so you get biased judging. I'm not competing against someone from Israel. My swimming race was tainted because I lost.

The Olympics serve only to highlight that we as a species are pathetic and petty.

My understanding is that the vast majority of this criticism of Hashimoto's score is coming out of China, either directly from that country's Social Media or via politically motivated proxies outside the country.

I see that Kyodo has watered down (practically censored out) the full story for the sake of not riling up tensions between China and Japan.

Hashimoto's only mistake is that he read the social media comments. Someone will always complain.

Clearly he was gifted the Gold medal… very poor judges! The score that he got was impossible under any circumstance. This almost always happens with gymnastics and nothing is done about improving it! I’m not being a conspiracy theorist but the whole system is corrupt!

This is why sports with judging should be thrown out. To much chance that corruption comes into play.
