and how many will be vaccinated?? Welcome to the Super Spreader Olympics!

Bottom line... who here, really wants to attend an Olympics event in Japan during the current Pandemic ? And if you do so, is that because you think you're immune because you had an inoculation ?

It is sad that certain issues really set people off

The only thing that set me off is when people say those that died from covid-19 or may die are old near the end of life anyway and having the Olympics is more important than them.

And yes they have actually written this despite denials and the mods have removed those comments for good reasons.

When people debase the worth of someone's life due to their age over a sports event, at that point nothing they said is of any value.

I'm British

Yeah got that a long time ago, we Canadians especially us Francophone can spot it 100 km away.

Again if you read I wrote clearly when posting in another country.

So when posting to a USA audience they use USA spelling to act as if they are America, when posting to a UK audience it will switch to UK spelling to act as if they are British.

Anyway I know you are so good I guess you know best.

Snowy:

Just a suggestion.

How about toning down your use of boldface, italics, and quotation marks? I know that - at least once - you’ve been advised by moderators to cut back on this practice.

You’ve also had enough practice here to realize how unreadable your subsequent posts become with overuse of these features, with masses of asterisks breaking up the text, and varying font formats making reading what you’ve written a chore.

Perhaps this is your ‘style’, but I skip your commentary when I see these types of posts.

To track and track this number is just not feasible.

Are the 225,000 fans per day, to be amongst the few to that are vaccinated?

Are these spectators to be tested, as the athletes and support staff?

At 225,000 per day?

At what price?

When will it sink in, that one way or another the costs could be measured in lives.

@snowymountainhell

Thank you” for Your ‘routine patience and civility’ toward others.

respect

I wonder were the respect was when the comment on people that died from covid were old, sick and near the end of their lives anyway.

And yes this was said.

Oh removed but said.

@snowymountainhell

Read what I wrote carefully.

I did not say their are bots!

I said bit assisted. There is a difference.

One is a computer generated comment, the other is a computer assisted comment is order to help the actual human look and sound more realistic as to being more involved or local than they are.

These assistance programs are common in the world of propaganda and PR quite common and the longer they are used the more certain repetitive parts become more noticeable.

Best wishes to you too. I’m glad some of us can conduct ourselves in a civil manner without making accusations or offensive comments. I understand how people feel from how Covid has been dealt with especially those who have suffered with it and/or lost loved ones. However we need to get back to normality, not just for our own mental and physical health but also our family and friends. The Olympics can be a perfect way to start that. The first event of its type since Covid, it’s a time if optimism and I hope it can help lift the spirits of those who are not coping well at present.

Not necessarily “rude at gov’t” *@ffSteve7:43pm*** but**perhaps ****‘many’ have been disheartened and dispirited and now, *find ‘opposing the IOC’s Olympics’ as their otherwise-disenfranchised opportunity to express their discontent.**. (Pardon the English’, it is ‘a second language’ for many of Us here). “Thank you” for Your ‘routine patience and civility’ toward others.  You are passionate about ‘your support’ and therefore, perhaps You can also respect those who may be ‘in opposition’. - Best wishes to you, *Sir.

@Bob Fosse

My daughter has her master's in AI.

She explained to me that certain social media response assistance bots are designed to pickup on local language nuances as to make the comments appear more as if the "person" writing them is a local.

These types of bots assist but an actual person must review or complete them.

This is how someone is X country working for X country government or organization can imitate someone from Y country.

A simple example would be if the person/bot is commenting in the USA the word neighbor" would be inserted but if commenting in the UK "neighbour" would be automatically inverted.

But these bots are supposed to learn so the more they are used in certain areas the more they pick up including strange or incorrect use or language and unless the operator notices or knows the correct use it gets posted and this gets more and more visible.

I have noticed this trend with certain accounts here.

Unless more people get vaccinated, this will be a real, honest to goodness superspreader event.

@Bjorn Tomention

Agree. Totally.

Some people are becoming rude at the government and the IOC for not doing things the way they want. The primary concern is safety and to ensure the worlds greatest sporting event runs smoothly.I’m sure they wish they could please everyone at all times but that simply is not possible. Covid has been handled OK here, no excessive drama and not too much hyperbole. Covid is on its way out, numbers falling and vaccines rolling out. Regarding Covid there is only positive news now, the experts are running the show and it’s going well. The end is in sight, no need for all the drama any longer, the worst is well over in Japan, maybe worldwide too.

The Bars and restaurants that are serving alcohol are at full capacity. These have lines of people waiting.

trains packed. Streets packed. But Can’t even have a beer in the park by yourself officially. Emergency!

But in couple weeks 225,000 a day come together.

lets Olympics! indeed.

Totally irresponsible and selfish.

Separately on Friday, Tokyo Gov Yuriko Koike said a vaccination center will be set up at the metropolitan government building to inoculate officials and workers related to the Olympics.

As I pointed out in another comment on another article.

I give up, the stupidity, of the Jgov, the Joc, The IOC, their supporters and all those in charge of the testing, organising, covid response and Vaccination has been do stupid, so disorganised, so mind boggling incomprehensible that I no longer care.

That the elderly, those with disabilities, medical issues are still far from being Vaccinated but the priority is the Olympics and everything is a mess because of the Olympics.

Vaccinating even one person not eligible under the normal system just because they are connected to the Olympics is criminal especially if even one person dies because they could not get their Vaccine.

225,000 spectators per day. That is insane.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

Shogun

The delay is to ensure safety for all. Covid is unpredictable to deal with and it essential to see how it is being dealt with on a day to day basis for this event. If a new variant had appeared that was far more deadly the spectators would nit be allowed, the games may have been canceled.

There will be no risk of allowing spectators to events, strict procedures are being taken to ensure safety for all.

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

With the organizers set to draw up a plan this month on what to do regarding domestic spectators

This month? As in one month before the olympics?

When they had months, even years to plan for spectators?

Good job waiting till the last minute. So what have you guys been doing since 2012? Or whenever the Tokyo Olympics were first announced?

6 ( +9 / -3 )

given that the number of ticket holders set to enter venues is estimated to be smaller than those visiting or commuting to the capital.

Glad they have common sense. And people commuting to school will be drastically lower in the summer. No reason to panic.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

And how are the organizers going to guarantee the public is going to be free of infection? testing and vaccination efforts are still going to be hijacked by the games.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

So little risk in a fresh air outdoor stadium. The indoor events will likely have a smaller maximum attendance ceiling. People have been using packed public transportation to get to and from work over the past year so that won't be an issue. With the vaccinated level much higher at the time of the Olympics, it is a good call to get fans in the seats and our lives back to normal. Even though there is opposition to holding the games now, the public will make a 180 once we get closer and the cases continue to drop. Great news!

This sums it all up! Except..PACK THE STADIUM!

-19 ( +1 / -20 )

Boycott the olympics, the people running them are disgusting and care nothing for anyone but themselves

12 ( +20 / -8 )

Great news! Olympic is for the spirit of the Tohoku. I hope some of those citizens can get tickets. Let's Olympic and excite! Go Japan!
