@Bungle, are these portable extinguishers the safe colour coding as the UK or the rest of the world? is there an international colour coding system? is Japans different from the rest of the world?

But if you only have a water available, what do you do? I was fortunate once to take part in a similar exercise at a factory in Chiba (annual event promoted by the local fire service). The guy in charge assumed we all knew the standard rule - don't pour water on a fire of flammable liquids. But he also demonstrated how it can be done with water (using a very fine spray - mainly to cool the fire). I was impressed.

Dear "Wobot": Did you read the article? It said: "Over 30 interpreters, speaking six different languages, were on hand to help the participants, who hailed from 44 countries." So, uh, they'll have "more than English."
