There are billions of people across the globe that want the Games to take place, the athletes and broadcasters want the Games to take place.
Idiot!
These billions of people are not living here and the athletes will go back to their home countries.
They will not face an increase of the virus after the games and again some restrictions here.

After reading this it is very obvious Coe has no clyu whatsoever as to what is really happening in Japan or is intenionally lying to the rest of the world to try to silence the sensible people who believe this insanity must stop.

Meanwhile your recent test case for the marathon in Sapporo is responsible for a huge surge in infections. Thank you.

'they' really do live in a bubble don't they. and I still reckon the five-ringed-circus won't happen..... hope I'm wrong, because it would be such a disappointent for the athletes...... (ー△ー;)

What happened to the 300 million vaccines that Abe procured last year? Or was that misinterpreted by the Jgov AGAIN.
ChiaPet
The ONLY people who benefit....

The IOC and J-Govt should issue a joint statement ASAP - vaccination required to compete without a known, medical, reason.
I know the US Track team has cancelled their planned Japan training camp.
Those quotes are from a story published over a month ago.
The trick is to get everyone from countries without vaccine access to be fully vaccinated pre-trip to Japan. Many of the best athletes will be training in countries where vaccines are available. The US has thousands of foreign athletes training here, mainly for college scholarships. Saw that US colleges spend $110K/yr per athlete. All of those people will have been vaccinated if they were in the US the last few months.

"The Olympics were postponed in March last year following the start of the pandemic but Coe said he believes athletes are in a different frame of mind heading into the July 23-Aug 8 Games."
The Olympics aren't just about the athletes. The residence of Japan are also in a different frame of mind - the majority of people here don't want the games to happen because the country is not prepared to handle an outbreak should one occur.
Alfie Noakes
You forgot the sponsors, Seb. Coca-cola, Toyota, your friends at Nike and all the rest. And Dentsu of course. How could you forget Dentsu?

Coe's only concern is with vaccinating the athletes who will compete at the games, which will presumably be done by their own Governments.
The people of Japan will simply have to put up with the consequences as far as he is concerned.
As for the vaccine "rollout" here ... my local municipality has started vaccinating seniors; I'm turning 65 in a couple of months, so I qualified for a spot. When I tried to book one, I just got a busy signal for days. By the time I finally got through, I was told there were no more bookings left. I later found out that they were given 2900 doses for a senior population here of 30,000!
That pretty much sums up the Government's vaccine rollout program.

Coe's level of corruption and ignorance boggles the mind

At the end of the day we are running out of medical resources to look after ourselves. How and why should we be freeing up staff and medical facilities for a sports event. I don’t understand why athletes are more important than people who cannot work or have lost there business. We need to be putting all our resources into protecting the population, not being distracted by the Olympics and its aftermath.
The most important thing for my family is keeping one step head of the virus. At the end of the day we do not know when we will get the vaccine.
ChiaPet
COVID-19 vaccine a big factor in saving the lives of those who live in Japan.
Bob Fosse
IOC should’ve hired Steve Ovett.
rainyday
Using that logic, shouldn’t the fact that most people here won’t be vaccinated by then be a big factor in making the Tokyo games NOT happen?
n1k1
Firstly sport doesn't play an important part in anyone's communities! Sport is more like entertainment , like seeing a clown jumping up and down . Yeah like that ... Important, really isn't the right word
Also nobody sane in the world wants to see the games take place in Japan because it is too risky here. Nobody in Japan is vaccinated and the hospitals are full. There is no scenario in my head where the Olympics don't complicate the already messy situation here.
Tokyo-Engr
I found the contact page for World Athletics. I took about 30 seconds and send a message about how things are in Japan. For those of you who wish to do so the link is below.

Fighto!
Absolute lies and filth coming from the mouth of this despicable English politician, crooked Coe. Its only about lining his pockets, thats clearly all that matters to him.
More lies and rubbish. What about the great majority of Japanese who DON'T want the games, crooked Coe?
falseflagsteve
The Covid Conspiracy Theorists want to end all entertainment and enjoying to justify their belief system. This is becoming like a cult now, trying to remove freedoms, sporting events etc. The virus is less deadly than claimed as the low amount of deaths in Japan and East Asian nations shows. It’s more dangerous to obese and poor health which is prevalent in the West. All they want is lockdowns, vaccines and no events. Never ask people to keep healthy, exercise and eat well. In my view these people are far more deadly than Covid.
The Olympics are a beacon of hope to the world, may the games be a succcess.
virusrex
It is not a belief system, it is called science, and it is the best way we have found to describe reality, by definition is the opposite of a conspiracy theory because it can only conclude things that have been proved.
In reality this is just an excuse science-deniers use when science says something they don't like, perfectly proved things are called "conspiracies" while fuzzy, fantasy based personal opinions from people opposing science are called "facts".
What kind of institutions would you call representative of scientific and medical knowledge? you can make a list of them and see what they say officially about the pandemic. How many say that the infection is not really dangerous? or tht lockdowns and vaccines are not justified? zero? How about them saying the games are justified and would not increase the risk? again zero?
Bob Fosse
Exaggerate much? Calm down a bit eh.

im At my kids undokai today that’s an Olympics without vaccine and crowdedness

新型コロナウイルスワクチンの当院での予約は、現在10月以降でのご案内となります。
Ah Ah Ah !!

Any data or something to assert that ?
There are more logical and scientific reasons to explain the increase.
I would rather assume that people are enjoying the spring , going out and partying after a cold winter, specially as they refrained last year.
A simple outdoor event never caused any covid increase in my knowledge.
I have joined many outdoor events , with hundreds of people over the last year without any problem .
robert maes
Disgusting selfish man even using athletes as his excuse for self serving.
And the lie about 75% of athletes loosing their one chance. Only 5 % would in case of postponement to 2022
Antiquesaving
Please tell us!
Guess you missed all the data on cases increasing right after aTrump rally!
If I find bird droppings on my car I logical think a bird flew by and dropped it.
I don't look around to find some other reason or possibility.
The cases start to double a weed after the event and are going straight up.

plenty of evidence to refute your baseless claims about me and claims about expert opinion. I am not anti vaccines, not anti science and certainly not one who dictates what others should do.
You have no interest in the damage lockdowns have caused and how good mental and physical health can benefit society particularly now. The answer isn’t vaccines and everyone locked indoors vegged out on the sofa watching Netflix.
Moderator
Readers, please stop bickering.
Bob Fosse
You keep saying this, ok we get it. Exercise is good for health. Any more cutting edge news?
Claiming not to dictate what others do but then saying getting a vaccine and staying home isn’t the answer to the pandemic is more than a little contradictory.
You live your way, fine. Nobody is forcing a vaccine on you. Nobody is forcing you to stay home and watch Netflix. Go to the gym, enjoy.
falseflagsteve
@Bob
Seems you don’t read my posts thoroughly. I say good health is good at beating viruses such as Covid and should be encouraged as much as the vaccines are. As for the Olympics, they are wonderful for humanity. Inspiring many to become fitter, youngsters to pursue a dream and bringing happiness worldwide. They should take place for the Children especially
virusrex
This is why it is so important to at least have the support at the level of organizations, not of individuals. And specially supported by objective, valid, scientific data and not just opinions.
Bob Fosse
You keep saying this, ok we get it. Exercise is good for health. Any more cutting edge news?

"We recognize sport does play a really important part in our communities. There are billions of people across the globe that want the Games to take place, the athletes and broadcasters want the Games to take place."
No. There are not billions of people across the globe who want the Games to take place.
I think these politicians really think that everyone is ignorant and not educated.

I wonder if Coe is ready and willing to head to India and tell the people there is great wisdom on the need for giant expensive sports events right now?
falseflagsteve
Antiquesaving
Obviously he will not head there unless he has lost his marbles. The tragic situation in a India exasperated by poor healthcare and general hygiene has nothing at all to do with Coe or the Olympics.
Antiquesaving
The Canadian gymnastics team will not be coming to the Olympics because they refused to go to the qualifying meet on Rio over covid concerns, the USA track team has decided to not come to Japan at this time again over covid concerns.
So it seems that Mr. Coe may have a slight disconnect in what people are thinking and feeling.
Antiquesaving
Why not?
You keep pointing out how healthy people have nothing to fear!
He is a first worlder, former Athlete obviously in very good shape band health.
And being British has most likely been vaccinated.
I say he needs to put his money and life where his mouth is and get over to India then let's us know how important sports are.
kurisupisu
Sports over the health of people in Japan?
Vested interests not in Japan granted favor over tax-paying residents of Japan?
Advice from a former runner making the headlines?
What a complete circus full of clowns it all is!

Why would he go to India when he is busy with the games? Should he go just to please you? Then you would complain that he is reckless going there.
Antiquesaving
You are right, I mean they all went to the Rio gymnastics qualifying meet, right?
Oh, wait, they didn't none of the IOC brass did.
They insisted that the teams needed to go but they themselves stayed away.
Funny how that happened.
He could go to show support for India and prove his point about sports being needed and important!
Again you keep going on about not much danger to the healthy.
He is healthy and probably vaccinated, I say lead by example.
Bob Fosse
For all the children in the world?
blvtzpk
"Won't somebody please think of the children?" ;)
Ai Wonder
Clearly doesn’t know that less than 3% in Japan have been vaccinated.
Goodlucktoyou
Vaccinated become carriers. Lucky there are no foreigners coming from all over the world with more deadly vaccine resistant variants...

My wife just received a text from her mom that both of her parents (both in 80s) will get their first shot on July 19. They were originally told it would be in the middle of June. There was no explanation why this has been delayed. This means they will not be vaccinated while the Olympics are occuring in Japan.
Hey Coe - tell me again about those vaccines?!
falseflagsteve
I fail to see what is so hilarious that I think of the children and the joy the Olympics will bring to them and possibly inspire them to become athletes. Far too much doom and gloom by the usual crowd, let’s enjoy the events with our friends and families.
Experts will ensure the safety of the athletes and their entourages and ensure that safety is paramount, Far safer than daily commutes in the train and working in a crowded office.
Time for people to stop being miserable and start enjoying life again, hopefully the Olympics will be the start of that.
