May the best man win, I suppose, and in this case he did; but I'm not gonna lie, I'm glad Japan won.
I know it's been a pain point for them that their own sport has seen dominance from overseas in recent decades.
Japan just needs that morale boost, as things haven't been going her way for some time in general.

"Dominance from overseas?"
Japan has more than twice the French tally of Olympic Judo gold.
World Nations ranking
1) Japan, 213,689 points
2) Russian Federation 127,539 points
3) France 119,683 points
4) Brazil97,463 points
The only dominance is from Japan, bossing the rest of the World.
