It’ll be interesting to see if this gets picked up by the national news.

Who knows if the report is actually true, but at least it would be comforting to think not every sponsor is on board with the unnecessary risks of the games. Then again they could just go public the the Asahi to make their views gain weight.

The Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics organizing committee on Saturday denied a Financial Times report

One of them in lying.

I wonder who...

There is no such demand,

The report cited sources close to the matter as saying the proposal was made to organizers by some sponsors in recent weeks, with 47 Japanese companies having collectively paid more than $3 billion for the games.

No such demand?...except for some of the 47 Japanese companies? So that’s not a demand? Financial Times stupid foreign what do they know about Japan.

Bring it on, the opening ceremony will go viral is my guess, should be embarrassingly hilarious if the organization leading up to this is anything to go by.

Obviously, the Japanese Olympic Committee, J Govt & the IOC don’t read:

Tokyo Olympic sponsors asked to pay more” - Dec. 12, ‘20

Japan's Olympic sponsors shelve ads as mood sours over Games” - Jan. 31, ‘21

Tokyo Olympic sponsor Toyota 'conflicted' over Games” - May 13, ‘21

Olympic anxiety leaves Japanese sponsors counting the cost” - June 2, ‘21

from the same media sources they use to influence and exploit public opinion.

Don’t feel sorry for the corporate sponsors. Today’s article is just another way to subtly ‘soften the blow” that it’s the Japanese citizens & working, foreign resident taxpayers that are paying 80% for ‘the Games’ the governments have been playing since 2013.

If the sponsors do not pull out, I hope the upcoming farce olympics damages their brands badly.

Boycott ALL olympic sponsors.

Cancel the trainwreck.

All this shows is that even the smaller local sponsors are just as GREEDY & SLIMY as IOC & TOCOG!!

They ONLY want to salvage some of the lousy investments........

NONE OF THEM care about the PEOPLE & RESIDENTS of Japan!!!

The sponsors did complain, demanded explanations, suggested postponement and even cancellation with their biggest fear cancellation during the Olympics.

these complaints were made in April during a scheduled meeting between the Tokyo sponsor organisation and the Local organising committee end of April.

However, the request to postpone for a few months is impossible, athletes have commitments which can not be changed in such a short time, they can, without too much trouble br changed when the postponement is for a year to July 2022 or even better September 2022( even with Qatar 2022 WC a clash can be avoided) .

The sponsors did too little to late. They do have the power, stil have, by pulling out. They would not be reimbursed but anyway money was budgeted and mostly paid already. What they would loose is their returns. But there are practically none and they have been paying so far only for nothing or to even get their images and brands tarnished. So best to cut their losses. LOC and IOC ( global sponsors) would not immediately suffer a financial loss but will in the near future as sponsors would not join or for less money.

IOC will regret this mess, they will find it very hard , in the near future, to find sponsorships at the ludicrous amounts they currently charge, if any. Except Chinese companies who would pay for political reasons. US companies will stay in because of LA but not later i think and I expect GE and Dow to not extend. Possibly also Bridgestone. Allianz is new as from 2022. Most of the other global sponsors are signed up till at least 2024/2028.

This story came from the Financial Times newspaper in Britain, which is owned by Nikkei.

https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Tokyo-2020-Olympics/Olympics-sponsors-call-for-Tokyo-Games-delay-to-allow-more-spectators

Some of the sponsors want the games postponed until autumn as they scramble to recoup some of their investment.

"Two people who attended the meeting said some companies decided that the money spent on Olympic sponsorship was effectively "worthless" but that a postponement would allow them to recover some value if it allowed spectators and greater movement around venues."

It looks like Aso Taro might have been right when he called the games "cursed".

There probably was no such “demand”. Maybe it was more of a “strong request”…

I am praying that these people are up to this challenge of holding the game amid public opposition, they will be UNFORGIVIN if things go bad.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Would love to see locals protest in the streets to block olympic traffic, that would cause a lot of problems for these CURSED games!

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Is this headline credible?

No.

Most of the people in Japan do not want an overblown sports contest in a pandemic!

It’s commonsense...

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Well somebody is lying and given the track record of the committee, even a five year old could tell you the answer. What a disgrace.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Unless the games are done two years later, the outcome would be the same as them being now or later this year. So I very much doubt the report on sponsors asking for the games to be done in September.

Yeah, we believe you...

The several billion: Monies paid into the coffers of the IOC & Tokyo Olympics organizations. Almost equal to the amount secured by broadcasting rights. Of which IOC member Dick Pound, vocal this past week about The Games, has a hand in. The legacy of PM Abe, in his Mario costume, ejected out of a tube at Rio. Where is he now?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

CASH, CASH, Give me the CASH screams the IOC!!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sponsors: Quit, walk away, in fact, run away very fast.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

If they deny it, that means one week until they admit it's true.
