Congratulation to the athletes from NW Asia and Easter Europe.

Or you can say ROC?

Apparently Biles described her teammates as "her backing dancers".

Apparently where?

Please stop saying "Russians" when related to this Olympics.

They are the informal team from the huge country in eastern Europe and northern Asia. There needs to be an actual penalty for the country's repeated attempts (and likely successes) at doping athletes.

Congratulation to the athletes from NW Asia and Easter Europe.

Geo,

Simione Biles getting a silver because her team got silver is same as a substitute Goal Keeper getting a medal in soccer. They may not have done much other than present an option but they are part of the team.

Next if you really want to know about some screw jobs note: Team USA basketball rarely plays the same roster in qualifying and world championships as they do in the Olympics, meaning some players are just used to qualify and receive recognition but not medals.

Geo: How many people in Japan, or any other country, that have to support their families, have the luxury to focus on mental wellness over all else? ….. Simone Biles withdrew from the team event however gets the medal, won by the courage and hard work of others, and it will count towards her historic “achievements”…

1) What a great world it would be if people could prioritize their mental health. Do you prefer no one be able to or just begrudge Simone Biles doing so?

2) Not having mental focus while competing in gymnastics isn’t a small problem. It’s one that could result in debilitating injury or death.

3) She’s the most decorated American gymnast. She no Johnny-come-lately to this sport so she must certainly be aware of when she’s putting herself in physical danger and any teammates worth their skills would know and understand that.

4) You do realize that the US gymnastics team has been so successful in large part because of Simone Biles, don’t you? She’s not hanging on anyone’s coattails. Had Michael Jordan had to sit out a final due to injury would he not have been worthy of the championship ring?

5) Your mind is part of your body. It’s about time we started understanding that mental health is physical health. Depression, suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, violence and so on are all related to mental health. It’s hard for me to understand the vitriol aimed at someone who’s been far more successful than most people, and at the young age of 24, decided that her mental health was important. Are all the vile comments from weekend warriors or former Olympians who have even a modicum of understanding for what she may be going through? Answers not required because I’m pretty sure I already know.

CNN already onboard with the large font headline about the “heroism” of Biles. A “potent reminder of athlete’s humanity” they announce.

Biles has a very close relationship with her family. She is used to always competing with her family there for support.

Maybe the isolation was too much for her during such a stressful competition.

She is still the GOAT

Dealing with pressure is part of being a top athlete. It is every bit as important as physical training and skill. Congratulations to the winners!

As an American myself I could hardly care less if the US took home the gold or the silver. Although CNN was running with the headline "America's worst nightmare comes true after Simone Biles withdraws" lol. I enjoyed each country's performance and one of my favorite moments of the night was when the Americans high fived one of the Russians after her stellar performance on the uneven bars. It was nice to see the competition bringing the athletes together.

Biles and Noami has talent. But sometimes it takes more than talents. It also require nerves of steel, intense training and hard work too. Not everyone can withstand the pressure of competing at a world stage. It just means they aren't ready yet. There is always next time. Just keep going forward and never give up. Hope the next time we see these athletes, they will come back stronger than ever. You can only improve after overcoming setbacks.

I can only assume you don't know Biles competed in the 2016 Olympics, so she has plenty of experience "competing at a world stage."

Imagine how well the Russians would be doing if they weren't banned from the Olympics.

Imagine if cheating anti-doping national agencies are not punished in Olympics - who would want that?

You'd have like the East German girls with mustaches again (the IOC never did punish East Germany for doping)

The Russian girls look like very strong athletes. I imagine they are very happy.

Tchaikovsky? A respectable choice, if your anthem can't be used...

Though the history books may mark Tuesday’s victory with an asterisk due to Biles’ early withdrawal

Actually the history will record the results, and nobody will talk it care about an early withdrawal of some athlete. I don't particularly support ROC athletes, but it would be better not to mar their effort with such bad writing.

A simple “Congratulations!” is always ‘in good form’.

Thrilled to hear this!

Good grief!

Someone's going to get fired for this - NBC haven't just paid $7 billion for the Olympics to see USA! USA! USA! lose to Putin's doped-up teenagers.

Though the history books may mark Tuesday’s victory with an asterisk due to Biles’ early withdrawal

So because the most hyped gymnast in history pulls out out for reasons of “Mental health”, the ROC’s victory is somehow worth less?

That’s not very objective reporting.
