the road race finish at Fuji International Speedway, falls outside the spectator ban, meaning up 1,800 people will be able to squeeze inside.

Good for the fans. Good for the athletes missing their support, too.

Good for the virus as well !

No creativity needed. - It’s EASY to see any of the events LIVE, and in-person . . .

… IF your a member of the IOCLDPJOC, a corporate sponsor, family member or, a brown-envelope ‘contributor’.

Enjoy Your games, paid for by the hard-working, tax-paying citizens & foreign residents of Japan.

The way to go, people!

But there is no law, so if people are hiking and stumble upon something of interest, be sure to keep your mask on.

Do you think an orange plastic fence would keep Americans out if this was held in America?

@Thomas Goodtime, it is possible they have been fully vaccinated and just aren't that afraid of the virus anymore. Don't forget, the heat here is unbearable. I though i might faint the previous just by walking down the road. It's the time of the year where high numbers of heat strokes happen.

But absolutely no link between the surge in COVID cases and these maskless people gathering against protocol to cheer for THE GAMES. None at all.

Let the vaccinated people go to the games!

Another of the PR stuff to sway public opinion and show how great these games are.....

If media did its job properly there would be many times more residents who would have exactly opposite opinion as to why the govt is pushing these games down our throats during the pandemic but who will do what is right thing to do????

Don’t these people have jobs?

Nice for them, this was a pretty good Olympics.

Received a VIP all pass to enter & park at whichever venue I feel like, but never watched full 10min of single game since the Olympics started (including the Opening Ceremony).

“The pain cave” - I'll have to remember that one! We distance athletes perversely learn to enjoy it. Gets the endomorphins flowing, a natural opioid neurotransmitter long-distance athletes become addicted to. Some call it "runners' high."

I am going to the track cycling on Wednesday. Expect there to be less than 1,000 spectators in a stadium that seats 3,600, so with some sensible precautions we should be fine. And the wife and I are both double jabbed.

I've also heard American cyclists call it "Hitting the wall" and can result in feeling like one is working very hard but not noticing that they are hardly moving at all. And it feels like a physical miracle what a Snickers and a pint of cold milk can do when that happens...

Some call it "runners' high."

And, with all due respect, here we see the physical basis of masochism...

So much for Suga's nonsense about the surge in the pandemic being linked to the Olympics.

Among the great words George Orwell coined in "1984" was "prolefeed".

These olympics are prolefeed.

and you have this reality check.....

Through five days of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, NBC’s average primetime audience of 15.2 million viewers is down 47% from Rio in 2016 and 57% from London in 2012. The opening ceremony, delayed a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, drew 16.7 million viewers for NBC on Friday, the smallest audience for the network broadcast since the 1988 Seoul Games.

And it's this which will turn Bach's face purple with apoplexy.

"Herr Bach, several people directly connected to the Olympics have tested positive for Coronavirus"

"Oh really?" (keeps counting money)

"Herr Bach, the foreign media are really being highly critical of many aspects of the Olympics"

"Ja, ja" (keeps counting money)

"Herr Bach, NBC viewing figures are down"

"WHAT? Gott in Himmel! Get me the head of the NBC director on a plate this moment!"

Speedo guy and lots of cyclists in cycling gear with their bikes were on the Mikuni Pass. It was where I was intending to go (pre-Covid, of course), but cycling websites had rumours that security would shut that part of the course down. I was surprised to see so many people there.

Cycling is a pro sport and a field that strong is not likely to visit Japan for a long long time. It's a shame more people couldn't get to see it or the strong fields in other sports too. The Games should have been held back longer. Having them now with no fans means that success is getting them done and out of the way while avoiding trouble. The only celebration is of the nationalistic "we won something shiny" type.

The Olympic Games - a celebration of the gift of life. “I wasn't really interested in sports. But the Olympics is something that you wouldn't have in your home country twice in your life. Maybe not even once. That's why I wanted to come and explore the venues” - Shogo Miyamoto, a freelancer from Kyoto.
