They will put the mattress on the ground, that’s it !

1980 track & field world games, LA - the grandstands were enough for some . . . .
Mark
""after a report warned they weren't strong enough for sex""
FOR SEX? OPPS, LOL
Cricky
No one has addressed the fire question? Cardboard beds, walls that’s a lot of combustible material throughout the building. I’m sure the beds will cope for two weeks or so, after that probably deteriorate but there use is over, or scatter them under bridges for the homeless. Be a nice gesture. I just hope everyone gets home safe.
snowymountainhell
They’re here already. YOU insisted on having the athletes here so, this is part of “The Games.”
snowymountainhell
You can’t control human nature. (Look
at the IOCLDPJOC failures with CoVid measures over the last year)

Plus, all the bedding & beds will have to be burned and the real estate will be empty for years if there’s a major outbreak in the Olympic Village.
Alan Harrison
Just put the mattress on the floor and have sex.

I say, Let’s prove the point! Time for some, er.... “experiments.”
hypothesis: Olympic beds can withstand the weight (and kinetic energy) of 3 eastern euorpian gymnasts and 1 US sprinter.
NOMINATION
Or that comfy looking bedspread, small table, against the wall, TV stand(if included), etc. There are many ways to play this.
Cricky
The hall monitors are there specifically to stop any hanky panky, celebration, loud noises, and too much chatter. A sudden banging on the cardboard door and a stern warning should stop such activity particularly among non married couples. Nobody wants a plastic orange truncheon motioned towards them. It’s all organised I have faith.

Unfortunately, All condoms Will be Wasted, Because The Condoms in Japan are not suitable for foreigners..
Go for condom-free sex.

great more fake whining, it's rather sad that NY Post would even report that without data and facts proving their claims. It would be great if they actually reported news instead of rumors but this and other like it are the exact reason no one trusts the media anymore
GdTokyo
Paddlerime,
Thats the reason nobody trusts the NY POST anymore. In a city with 3 daily newspapers, it’s the 4th best.
GdTokyo
I don’t want to exclude anyone. Please feel free to utilize the ethnicity, gender identity, sport and number of participants of your choice in experiments.
Also, feel free to utilize any er, “accessories” you wish although as open flame represents a source of ignition, candles are not recommended.

This nonsense has gone viral in the past few days, even though it's an old story long debunked. It's almost as if someone is trying to distract attention away from the serious issues of the $30b rip-off Tokyo 2020.
Chico3
Oh yes. The athletes will obey for sure. (Sarcasm) @Norm - I agree with you. At least give them some kind of Japanese culture.
Dman
half-hearted jumper
Yeah... they mentioned that in the article?
Really hope that was tongue-in-cheek...
iradickle
We've conducted experiments......like ummmm, dropping weights on top of the beds.
(nice save)

The claim was made by an 'American' athlete (of course) name of Paul Chelimo in an interview. But the word 'sex' was in the offhand remark so journalism automatically swelled it up into NEWS. But an Irishman, Rhys McClenaghan, pointed out quite dramatically the strength of the beds while shouting "Fake news! Fake news!". Once more the Irish set us free. Thanks, Rhys. Why do these crazy stories always seem to involve an American, and usually not in a complimentary way?
Tom Doley
More propaganda. Only reason cardboard beds were used was because Abe's relative owns the darn company.
atomu
Well that's a relief.
Chico3
Of course. What else would it be. Just give more propaganda so the feeble minded will believe.
Alfie Noakes
That's interesting. The interweb tells me Airweave is owned by a guy named Motokuni Takaoka. He's a relation of the suddenly invisible Shinzo, is he?

Futons are better.

Apparently the grandstands were enough for some this year as well.
Tom
It's going to be awkward for the person trying to get some sleep in the other bed.
drlucifer
Commitment to sustainability, that is a nice one.
I will be enjoying my multi-layer wrapped conbini bento with a disposable wooden ohashi.
gokai_wo_maneku
This makes sense. What are they going to do with 10,000 beds after the Olympics? Sell them as souvenirs?
Thomas Tank
Nah.
sock on door handle system should work fine
maybe visitor will bring a friend for roommate
I'm sure they can figure something out.
serendipitous1
So a successful threesome with a level of difficulty of 4.7 would be worthy of a gold medal!
Beto
Sexual activities can be done on the floor ... wild or rough without breaking the bead cardboards.
If condoms are souvenirs to bring back home stupidity says buy one in your home country! Amazing the lack of common sense in JP.
Garthgoyle
People just wanna complain about stuff, all the freaking time. The beds were planned this way pre-pandemic so they could be recycled. For you know, life after the Olympics.
Leo
Wow. Weird article. I wonder if thay hand out a mask with the condom. Stay 3-6 feet apart from each other. No need for sex at the olympics. They should concentrate on the games.
The Avenger
In my lifetime: Hardwood furniture, then softwood, then laminates, now cardboard.
Tom Doley
@Alfie
I think Airweave provides the mattresses. Mitsubishi Shoji Packaging provides the cardboards. This company is owned by Hironobu Abe, brother of Shinzo.

Only in Japan is this sort of corruption just brushed off. Shogenai
Some dude
Only in Japan is this sort of corruption just brushed off.
I think it’s probably expected.
itsonlyrocknroll
I would be tempted to smuggle one of those duvets out.
These Japan Games are quite unique in many respects
AManInJapan
Anti-fun, anti-cheering, anti-supporters, anti-atmosphere,... but hey, you can have as much sex with yourself as you want in those little rooms :-)
as_the_crow_flies
First Abenomasks, now Abeds. How much more troughing will come out before this shambles is all over?
as_the_crow_flies
Risking Covid, STDs, radionucleides in the fish, career-changing injuries after frolicking outside the expected limits of behaviour on the cardboard bed? Truly, no other country will be able to better the 'Omotenashi' experience our athletes encounter during their time in Japan.

Good grief. LDP chief dalek in Olympic profiteering scandal. What a shocker, they'll be putting oranges in marmalade next.
lostrune2
Lol, kinda amazed nobody yet retorted: "They haven't met my wife!"
