Japan considers vaccinating all 70,000 Tokyo Games volunteers

Japan sure loves considering things. Not actually doing anything, but considering thinking about doing something

I doubt this will happen, the announcement will just be for PR purposes.

If it does happen, as with the athletes, it's more queue jumping.

Why is this “line-cutting” of 70,000 vaccinations necessary when 80% of ‘Japan’s people’ disapprove of the Games?  This week, the IOC/JOC are really ‘on a bender’, manipulating the previous disapproval numbers. The disapproval numbers are now being reported as:

*“A poll by broadcaster TBS this week showed 55% wanted the Games either postponed/cancelled” -*

and they’re Now claiming disapproval was as [65 %] last month!

-“down 10 points from last month.”-

Look closely, it’s ‘methodically and systematically’ being edited into various news stories starting Jun 5.

More Olympic "mulling". The usual mullers are at it again aiming for (comedy) gold!

Consider? Just do it.

That should’ve been one of the incentives from day 1 of the vaccine era.

Oh I am glad they are considering it. At this rate, once the proposal goes through all the proper channels, meetings, and commitees, Japan will be all ready to vaccinate their volunteers by the next time they hold the Olympics.

Incidentally, that will be about the same time they finish vaccinating the general population anyway.

I really, really wish that there could be a little more action instead of consideration. It is almost mathematically impossible, even if they started today.

So if they are going to do it properly, they need to start now. But instead, it will be another half-hearted fantasy. Just like every other aspect of the Pandalympics.

Brian Roberts, CEO and biggest shareholder issues the marching orders and calls the tune. Suga. Bach. Roberts whistles and they answer his call and do his bidding. The command is to proceed no matter the cost to all, as what matters is the profit for the few.

As for inoculations. More the merrier. Though, immunizing the volunteers exhibits the loathing & contempt those who lord over us have for the common herd.

Pandalympics: most excellent naming.

Vaccinating them for what? A friend of mine is a volunteer. She was offered a free vaccination by Tokyo City. She was offered not a covid vaccination but a rubella vaccination. That seems ridiculous as I believe Japanese are already vaccinated for rubella, and it only needs to be done once a lifetime.

I suspected this would be some spin scam. The government wants to say they are all vaccinated but not what they are vaccinated for.

How about changing the headline to Japan considers delaying vaccinations for 70,000 over 65s?

By the way, my friend is going to stop being a volunteer. She is applying for a job through an agency which involves doing the work of a volunteer, wearing the same uniform as a volunteer but being paid ¥16,000 yen per day.

Maybe the agency workers will be able to get vaccinations for covid to help them recruit volunteer replacements. I wonder.

Hap Smith, You are fully protected after the 1st shot. The 2nd shot is more or less a booster that has to be administered 21 days after the 1st.

Well, since this is an absolute requirement to keep the games at the minimum acceptable level of safety it should have been obvious since last year.

On the bad side, this would mean 70K people are going to skip the line in detriment of people of advanced age and other preexisting conditions that make COVID specially dangerous.

On the good side, I wonder if you can volunteer but then quit after getting vaccinated...

Haha, that’s the first thing that comes to mind. But the 2nd shot would only be administered somewhere around the end of the Games, right?

But I think they are counting on this suggestion so another propaganda article can appear next week claiming ‘record number of volunteers apply!’

term ‘considering” a decision usually means govt will announce it’s decided soon.

When actually doing something, “considering” means…. Brainstorming.

Of course they all should be vaccinated! But Japan should have started doing that months ago. On the other hand my mother in-law whose 75 year's old doesn't get her first shot until July 17th. That's really screwed up!

sure, take your time, consider away, we're not in hurry. seems japan's health authorities are just stupid, or have their hands tied and it's all only about politics and not about health. that's the only possible explanation for "considering" protection or not.

One more reason not to be a volunteer.

First of all, Japan isn't considering anything. Japan is a country. A few doddery and do-less officials are dithering about what the consequences might be if they vaccinated 70,000 Olympic volunteers.

It takes 2 months to be fully vaccinated.

Don´t think that is the end of it. Now they found the formula for compliance works, look forward to endless "booster" injections or the next virus.

The athletes get to be vaccinated, but my wife with type 1 diabetes and other health issues has to wait and wait and wait?!?!?

To hell with the athletes and the stupid games. There are endless people with underlying medical conditions who can't get vaccinated. Suga and his fellow incompetents have blood on their hands.
