A foreigner and people related to the games.? So one foreigner and the rest Japanese.

@enolagay “Foreign ATHLETE”. Could be foreign staff etc

3 ( +5 / -2 )

The cases in the "village" are tripling every day.

This is not going to end well.

14 ( +17 / -3 )

Games-related infections stand at 71. What will the number be after everything wraps at the end of August? Over 1000? Any guesses from our esteemed posters?

12 ( +14 / -2 )

At this rate all the athletes will be quarantined before the Olympics are finished☹️.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

Are there not people holding Japanese passports but still considered foreiggggners?

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

12,346 according to my input in my program

LOL! That's exactly what I was thinking....

They will have carried out more tests on these people during the short time they are here than all the testing combined in Tokyo during last 2 years. Perhaps an exageration, but heck, they are testing more in this 'village' than all of Tokyo PER DAY. These tests are the quick antigen and follow up PCR are required to confirm if positive, wonder if this is what is being reported, can it be confirmed?

According to reports in non-Japanese media about half of those diagnosed with Covid are Japanese connected to the Games, but you wouldn’t know this reading many reports, it’s all foreigners.

15 ( +15 / -0 )

Now, show finally some responsibility and mercy and cancel those damned virus spreading games. You really play hazard with your and everyone else’s remaining life expectancy, don’t you realize that? It’s excusable that you don’t have the slightest imagination and expertise, but not listening at all to all the calculations, argumentations and warnings, that is by far not excusable anymore!

The kind of newspaper articles and tv news like the one from JT are the perfect example in how the propaganda spread fear among the local population emphasizing the foreign case but omitting the other Japanese infected within the Olympic system.

So there is no surprise it the foreign witch hunt will get worse because the press is keeping a very good narrative.

Despite this more and more foreigners want to come to Japan for the Olympics or even holiday … and they all praise Japan and the wonderful people of Japan! It’s like they meet 0.0001% of Japanese people around the hotel or Olympics village who show them the renowned hospitality Japan is known for and carve it in their mind that the entire of Japan is the same…lol ! They fail to realize that more than 90% of Japanese people don’t want them to enter Japan during this outbreak!

""foreign athlete"" ??

Aren't they all FOREIGN except for the Japanese team,

The Olympic Village will become soon an Isolation Village

What did bach promised???. U bach have no integrity. ioc is over.

If one athlete test positive regardless if the rest of the team test negative they all should be quarantined!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Athletes have been preparing for this for 5 years. It's hard to miss out because you have a sprain, flu or an upset stomach, as has happened in previous Olympics. To miss out because you have an asymptomatic virus would be even worse. They will be trying their best to avoid Covid. Others may be more reckless.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

The IOC is evil and selfish. Idiots.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

@GBR48

Oh poor athletes 5 years of preparation mostly living off of government money and sponsors.

Such a tough life.

We let's see I and many other had prepared our businesses for a load of tourist last year, nothing and little or no help, then again this year same thing.

But imagine if the government had instead of spending billions more in doomed games, it instead got the vaccine out faster, helped more Japanese businesses survive got the population vaccinated and actually got everything back to fully working, no 20:00 closing no border closures.

So 18,000 privileged Athletes would miss their Olympics but millions of Japanese would be having a much easier time and more secure jobs.

zero Risk from Olympia, keep on going!

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

The thing is, the reporters can report all they want, but it's more than likely that all infected people became infected here due to Japanese people infecting them.

Japan should be ashamed of themselves as a collective nation.

The tally also included an Olympic volunteer for the first time

There goes Bach's foolish promise of zero chance of infections to the general population.

Why do you assume that the volunteer caught it from an athlete, and not that the volunteer was the source of the infections to the others?

Elsewhere, two Mexican baseball players tested positive for COVID-19 before departing for Tokyo, Mexican baseball authorities said Monday. The team, which faces host Japan on July 31, still plans to fly to Tokyo.

I thought you needed a negative PCR test to enter Japan. Or does that not apply to the Olympics? I wonder how the other passengers and the aircrew feel about this.

The answer is in the quote.

"*two Mexican baseball players tested positive for COVID-19 before departing for Tokyo"*

Interesting....

There are now reports in overseas press that "Tokyo 2020 chief Toshiro Muto said he was prepared to discuss a last-minute cancellation".

https://www.the-sun.com/sport/3315558/tokyo-olympic-games-cancelled-covid/

The article says

"“We have agreed that based on the coronavirus situation, we will convene five-party talks again.

“At this point, the coronavirus cases may rise or fall, so we will think about what we should do when the situation arises."

Muto’s stunning intervention, just hours after IOC President Thomas Bach admitted he had suffered ‘sleepless nights’ and feared the Games would not be able to take place, came as Tokyo suffered another two health and safety body blows."

I still think the games will go on at all costs as we were promised by Bach, Coates, and Suga.

According to reports in non-Japanese media about half of those diagnosed with Covid are Japanese connected to the Games, but you wouldn’t know this reading many reports, it’s all foreigners.

And that is troubling.

"Foreign athlete in village among 9 new Olympic COVID cases reported"

Or could be

"8 Japanese nationals and 1 foreign athlete COVID cases reported"

Or better:

"9 new Olympic COVID cases reported"

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Wonder what country will win Gold for the most Covid cases....

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Yes, I’ve just read those cancellation considering rumors too. You are right, that’s of course most probably only a sedating tranquilizer, so that they can bridge the few remaining time till the start of their virus super spreading maximum undisturbed.

Some possible olympic csncellation quotes from a US sports site I haven't seen published in articles here unless I missed them.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Oh, Tokyo Engr found them on another site before me. Good work!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Lock them up for two weeks in the petri dish that's the Olympic village then send them out. This is zero risk? Suga wants to prove Japan can hold a safe Olympics but does he care once he sends them all back home?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

In Hiyoshi, Yokohama, where the GB athletes are staying, the team put up a sign that says GB 2020, Freedom of Great Britain. Yes, freedom to walk around town and break the bubble.

U.S. women’s gymnastics team bolts Olympic Village as COVID worries grow

Amid heightened concerns over COVID-19, the U.S. women’s gymnastics team has elected to stay in a hotel rather than board in Tokyo’s Olympic Village.

Didn't know they could do that; well, they will have a better bed at least.

Athletes don't have to stay at the athlete's village if they got the money, ie pro tennis players, NBA players, and and pro Golfers stay at luxury suites of 5 star hotels instead.

> Athletes don't have to stay at the athlete's village if they got the money, ie pro tennis players, NBA players, and and pro Golfers stay at luxury suites of 5 star hotels instead.

Wow--so then difficult to track them if they are staying in hotels.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

This article which has been shown by Samit Basu is huge and speaks much louder and to the point than any of us here can on Japan today.

https://nypost.com/2021/07/20/u-s-womens-gymnastics-team-bolts-olympic-village

It says about everything one needs to know.

Bach, speaking from his 5 star suite which we are all paying for insists that the Olympics Village is safe and there is Zero Risk from the village. He does not have to stay there like all of the athletes but he knows better than they do speaking from the suite.

The U.S. gymnastics team "has elected to stay in a hotel rather than board in Tokyo’s Olympic Village" as stated in the first sentence. It seems that the team who actually lived, slept, and ate in the village have a completely different impression than Lord Bach who declared the village safe with a guarantee of No Risk from the comfort of his 5 star hotel.

It is now a 100% proven and demonstrable fact that Bach, the IOC, and the JOC outright lied when they said the protections afforded by the Village will make this the safest Olympics ever. The gymnastics team has just "breached security". Are they going to be disqualified from the Olympics?

If the gymnastics team is not disqualified this implies that the IOC, JOC, etc. believe the gymnastics team took correct action by leaving the village and the IOC, JOC are not admitting that the village is not safe, contradicting all of their earlier statements.

The article does not say what special protections are going to be used at the hotel to protect both the athletes from the virus in Tokyo or the public from possible cross infection.

This is absolutely the biggest story related to the Olympics to date but I am sure there are more to come.

Is anyone going to challenge the IOC or JOC with the above 4 questions/statements?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The 4th point above should say ."....and the IOC, JOC are now admitting that the village is not safe, contradicting all of their earlier statements." it is a bit early so more coffee is needed to type correctly (and fully absorb the meaning of this)....

The U.S. gymnastics team has now backed the IOC, JOC into a proverbial corner

I’m sure most of us anticipated that. There’s only so much residents here can do. Sometimes you have to let the chips fall where they may. I hear there’s a typhoon coming.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I guess we can all do the math and say that the other 8 are Japanese. Right? Just admit it.
