Apparently there is still a lot of resistance among some athletes to get vaccinated. In the US, there is still a big divide between those that want the vaccine and those who don't want it. But this is what democracy is. You cannot force someone to get vaccinated against their will.

This is why there is a protocol to daily test them and send them to the hotel if the result is positive. The athletes who didn't get vaccinated had accepted this condition when they came to Japan to take part of the Olympic.

What? No update on the total number of people connected with the Olympics who test positive for COVID?

Should have worn a mask.

Today one day new addition within Olympic "Bubble" is 24 - total count goes to 198 as per news on Yahoo Japan - link below

Today count of 24 is highest since start of Olympics.

I think the problem with getting the vaccine too close to the competition limits the day you can train (twice per shot, arm pain, and risk of doing heavy exercise) and leading up to the competition, you need all days to be well conditioned.

World pole vault champion Kendricks out of Olympics after COVID positive test

So stupid. What does a positive PCR test have to do with his ability to perform? We are living in clownworld.

Hiro

Apparently there is still a lot of resistance among some athletes to get vaccinated.

As an endless line of pro-vaxxers have explained here, the vaccine does not prevent people from getting infected. Your point?

@justasking The vaccine has been available in the US for all since at least February or March. There has been plenty of time for them to get a single shot of Johnson and Johnson

Yes, of course, there’s no knowledge yet, about how the vaccines correspond with all their tons of ingested other dangerous medications and dopings. Most of them already have their body chemically at the edge. So anything on top of that would be a hazard game with own life. And I am not, therefore could afford to do the vaccination challenge, also a gamble but with much smaller chips on the table.

just like some others.

U.S. men’s beach volleyball player Taylor Crabb tested positive for Covid-19 in Japan, despite having been vaccinated and testing negative before leaving the U.S.

U.S. women’s gymnastics alternate Kara Eaker tested positive for Covid-19, it was announced July 20, despite her being fully vaccinated.

U.S. women’s basketball player Katie Lou Samuelson tested positive for Covid-19, she announced July 20, despite saying she was fully vaccinated

In fact, 25% of Los Angeles County COVID cases are now people who are vaccinated.

Where is the social distancing?

Imagine being locked in the ‘Olympic Bubble’ with the virus running rampant…

Need to watch who you hang out with. Americans and Aussies get along really well.

Hopefully, nobody gets pulled from their events, but if it happens, they should quickly recover from any symptoms and completely avoid hospital care.

Outside of the Olympics, testing positive for COVID, if vaccinated, means self isolation at home, but probably little or no symptoms. Not being vaccinated means 7-14 days of symptoms and isolation. Which would you prefer?

It looks like the rise in cases in Japan and in Tokyo are unrelated to the events in the Olympic village. The 27% vaccination rate in Japan is too low to stop the pandemic, especially in its current form. By comparison, about 50% of all Americans are fully vaccinated. That has not been good enough to stop the virus from spreading, and causing the ICUs to fill up with the unvaccinated, at least in areas of the country where there are still a lot of people who did not get the shots. Among those who test positive for the virus but have been vaccinated, the worst thing that is happening to 99.9% of them is that they show up as positive on the Covid test.

“The takeaway message remains, if you’re vaccinated, you are protected,” said Dr. Celine Gounder, an infectious disease specialist at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York. “You are not going to end up with severe disease, hospitalization or death.”

Still, vaccinated people can come down with infections, overwhelmingly asymptomatic or mild.

For the average vaccinated person, a breakthrough infection is likely to be inconsequential, causing few to no symptoms.

What does a positive PCR test have to do with his ability to perform?

Ability to perform, maybe not

Ability to infect others and possibly ruin others' Olympic dreams, yes

He has no right to ruin others' Olympic dreams

He only has the right to ruin his own Olympic dream

It's his own responsibility to keep himself un-infected - it's his choice how he does it, but whatever the consequences is his responsibility to accept

When you put other's health in jeopardy, it is not a choice nor democracy.

To get vaccinated is also showing respect for others.

USA has had protocols for various diseases in the past for various groups to be vaccinated, not through choice.
