Like the old stadium it will be used for countless numbers of other events. Don't worry, the stadium will be plenty used after the Olympics are over.

this is Japan, so the real cost is this multiplied by like 3

Keep an eye on the cost figures over the coming years. And even in this article.

The article quotes a US$ 1.5 billion price tag. Actually, every article should quote the agreed price in JPY first, with the US$ equivalent provided for reference.

I believe that the agreed contract was for JPY 149 billion yen, or thereabouts. Which, at the time in October of this year or so, might have been close to US$ 1.5 billion. However, now, it is closer to US$ 1.3 billion.

So, it is important that everyone remember the numbers in both currencies. No doubt we will be revisiting them again, as they start to go up!

Never thought this day would come

I am not going to write Quit Olympic anymore. Congratulation. I'd bet bottom wall advertisers of Japan Inc. will line up to spend money to Tokyo Govt now. Ticket sales will be big, too.

With that thinking, how about we just cancel all Olympic games forever since every country has people living in poverty and/or suffering.

Still too expensive given the design is quite similar to an ordinary stadium. Why is it so damn expensive?

Only guessing from above article but extremely creative structure. Japan will have the best stadium in the world.

I agree... the Olympics is past its use by date and should either be cancelled, scaled down or held in the same city everytime to save on costs...

Japan has budget that inclllude helping Fukushima. The budget is twice than last year's. For TEPCO, it has been using its own funds to work on damaged reactors. Tokyo Olympic can not interfere Japanese gov't and TEPCO effort but there are swindlers who use Fukushima name to collect money. The price is cheaper than Astros dome. MGM in Vegas spent a lot more money to smaller stadium this year in Toshiba sport arena but far more money than Tokyo..
