Hope to see him in our local Junior High Schools next week, but that will never happen. Bullying is part of Japan's infamous "dantai shakai" be a litle different get bashed.

“We will be trying to restore public trust in sport and work to prevent the (Olympic) bid from being affected.”

I meant to say this when this lout was spouting such garbage yesterday. So SUDDENLY the guy is going to try and fight corporal punishment and other beatings or abuse in sports. Why? Because Judo-kai raping or beating the athletes below them is horrendous and criminal? Nope... it's because it might leak out to the international media and affect Tokyo's chances at getting the games. Scum.

"The JOC set up a task force to investigate the allegations and work out counter-measures against corporal punishment"

Ummm... it's not rocket science; you immediately can the people committing the acts, strip them of any and all qualifications to participate in the sport themselves and to coach others, and depending on the severity you give them fines and jail time, with the possibility of civil suits from those abused. As it is it just sounds like the JOC is trying to think of the best way to sweep it under the rug without making any effective changes.

"Asked if the judo scandal could give IOC members a negative image of sport in Japan and curb public support for Tokyo’s bid, Takeda was bullish."

They sure do hate when the truth comes out, don't they.

I think the title should read, "Athlete Abuse". "Coach Abuse" implies coaches being abused.

I wonder how much movement this would've gotten had there not been an Olympic bid element to it.

While there at it, I'd like to see the abusive practice of making students run around during P.E. in shorts and T-shirts without sweaters/jackets during the freezing winter eradicated as well.

The allegations have already been fully investigated. There is no question about what happened, just about why the Japanese judo authorities allowed the coach to remain in charge. Sorry, no questions about that, either. The only questions are regarding what will be done. If any coach were immediately terminated, and his or her dan rank and coaching and competitive records nullified, that might work.
