It's odd how this and the Qatari's bribing EU officials are being swept under the rug by media. These are major stories. Our trusted government officals are not so trustworthy. Oh, wait no one is surprised, we all know who the real criminals are.

The LDP's sloppy, totally not hidden corruption endangers their chances to enjoy more corruption and profit?
Hoisted on their own petard?

It's not difficult but whether people that involved in Hokkaido Olympics are willing to implicated with scandal after Tokyo Olympics. Most of small and medium companies that involved in Tokyo Olympics, they are not scandalous companies at least until Tokyo Olympics.

Suzuki is putting the cart before the horses, the investigation is not damaging the Sapporo's bid, it is making clear why the city should not be making that bid in the first place. Corruption is rampant and without correcting that first he is taking an unnecessary risk of losing a lot of the people's money only to make dirty organizers and companies get that money.

Dont worry. Sapporo will win. The IOC owes Japan big time.

Some good news at last.

No one in Sapporo outside of the corrupt want it!

Escape clause identified. Zillion Yen saved. Everyone off to the izakaya to celebrate.

It's humorous that a politician in Hokkaido named "Suzuki" is griping about political scandals (not his fault, just saying it's a funny coincidence) after possible-relative Muneo did what he did and was even re-elected after being convicted.
In any case, they will get the Olympics because no one else in their right mind wants the Winter Olympics anymore (and barely Summer). They also have the most money to bribe with, which they absolutely will. This guy is, in a nutshell, just complaining that it's now harder to do it.

Right! Strange how out and out corruption does. Not to dismiss that the Olympic Committee are up there with FIFA for corruption gold medal.

I say ‘no go’ to corrupt sporting events using taxpayer money!

ill take “things that make you go DUUUUHHH” for ¥1 trillion, Alex.
travelbangaijin
the scandal was after the fact - the travel ban destroyed chances of Japan ever hosting anything big again

And like the coward that she is, Koike has been hiding in the corner until some good news come out!
She will not be PM!
You could almost say that corruption is part of Japanese culture. I bet you will not find that in the tourist brochures.

Corruption, like in politics is an integral part in sport. It has a positive effect on the local community. You can’t just walk into a bank with a suitcase full of $500000 cash. But you can buy watches, hotel rooms, restaurant meals, Italian shoes, etc, benefiting local workers and businesses instead of hoarding the cash in banks.

Diddums. You've already had them in 72 anyway.

Most beneficial scandal in quite some time. The IOC grifters have outlived their usefulness. With the internet, international travel, etc. the Olympics has lost quite a bit of their luster, especially the Winter games that are dominated by the Nordic European countries. The 'bids' are pretty half-hearted from the two 'finalists' of Salt Lake City and Sapporo. With less bids, less payola for the IOC.
