Thank you Mr. Zverev for making it a very, very interesting final week of the tourney !

And thank you Mr. Federer for making it an even more interesting final week of the tourney !

Well, the Master was triumphant again ! Gokurosama, both Fed and Kei-san ! That double break at the start of the fifth set was the killer. A very interesting match. Would now love to see a Rafa/Rog final !

Might be time for Nishikori to take a break and get his body back together, he's quickly earning a new name, Nishikori Kega. Seriously hope Roger gets this grand slam. Nishikori still has time but maybe instead of doing putsy TV appearances in Japan he takes the time off to recuperate properly.

Kurobune

It was only a single break at the start of the 5th but it was enough for the Fed to pull off a nice win.

Well, as someone said the other day, a win is a win.

I think Wawrinka or Raonić have something to say about that!

I feel like your reaction to the Nishikori match reveals a lot about your overall opinion of him. Did he fall short in yet another Slam, this time against an older, lower-seeded opponent? Yes. Did he very reasonably fall short against perhaps the Greatest Of All Time in a very good match? Yes. So I feel like we haven't learned anything new about Nishikori and his long-term assessment from this tournament. Entertaining match to watch, though, regardless of who you were pulling for.

Federer was playing at home today, not much love for Nishikori. Plus KN ran out of gas very early in the game, Federer smelt blood in the middle of the first set (even if he lost it) and never looked back.

Perso I would like the see a new GS winner. Raonic's missiles will be hard to stop.

What a great match! Nishikori left to rue perhaps what might have been had he been able to withstand a little more of Roger's pressure in the second and third sets, but overall it was Federer's sheer attacking brilliance that was the difference. And couldn't you see how much it meant to Federer to win that match, from his reaction at the end, he was pumped. Taking down Nishikori in 5 sets, if you asked him before the tournament I think he'd have taken that.

And now he's looking to me the hottest contender for the title, he's in great form already. Last year his backhand looked fragile but today it was frequently a lethal weapon. The only issue was his second serve was often a gimme point for Nishikori. But Roger found his range pretty well in the last four sets, with just the one break to Nishikori again in the 4th.

Hoping to see many more Acts of Roger here at this tournament!

Well I lost my $5 on Kei, but it was more than worth it to see the G.O.A.T. - Fed - roll back the clock with a vintage performance! Hoping he keeps up his form and goes all the way, who knows when he decides to call time on his marvelous career!

That's so true!

@Pukey and @serendipitous - Right you guys are. (sorry) Never seen so many comments in this section before. Wow !

Well, there go the ratings in Japan. On the good side, now I can watch in peace without blather about Nishikori from Japanese friends and the announcers.

BurakuminDes: "Well I lost my $5 on Kei"

Told you you would. It was a good match, though.

Mocheake: "Well, there go the ratings in Japan. On the good side, now I can watch in peace without blather about Nishikori from Japanese friends and the announcers."

True. There's that.

You guys have the option of switching to the non-commentary sound channel during the Australian Open if you are watching on NHK.

As for your friends, you do love them, don't you?

fxgai: "As for your friends, you do love them, don't you?"

What does that even mean? I would think everyone loves their friends -- even so much as to not refrain from criticism when it's warranted.

"You guys have the option of switching to the non-commentary sound channel during the Australian Open if you are watching on NHK."

Guess it's too much to hope for objective commentary then, eh? Although I think the poster's point was more that they are not going to hear ANYTHING on it now that Nishikori is out.

What does that even mean?

It means, even though one's Japanese friends might "blather about Nishikori", one still loves one's friends, right?

You can change the commentary audio on TV, and if you really don't like your friends blathering, one could always (try to) get new friends if it was really such a nuisance.

Guess it's too much to hope for objective commentary then, eh?

Yes, I think so. Once the world is a place without borders and the concept of nations is eliminated, then you might be in luck. Until then, just use the second audio channel and spare yourself. It's easy!

@fxgai - Amen, amen, and amen !

You can change the commentary audio on TV

I've gone one step further. Sold my TV years ago and I haven't looked back!

You watch live streams or something now, Pukey2?
