If the reigning World Champion Astros couldn't pick up a win against Ohtani and the Angels, then they haven't figured out much. And Altuve already batted against Ohtani in the WBC. Batters can't do much about the cold hard fact that Ohtani is the only starting pitcher to throw over 100 MPH this season in all of baseball. (The other two guys who can do it are relievers.) Being 5-10 MPH faster than the other pitchers in the league makes your stuff that much harder to see and hit. I predict Ohtani will end up with a record equal to his best year in NPB with 15 wins.

Dismal is an odd choice of words. Which starting pitcher (plus DH) is having a better 2018 rookie season in your opinion? If you come up with another name, I will accept that he is doing dismally, but I doubt you can.

That one homerun should have only been 1 run since the ump let the man walk on an obvious strike. He was still pitching smoke the way to his last retired batter. He deserved the win that the bullpen screwed up as usual. He struck out 7 which included Altuve twice.

How do you figure? He left the game only up a run (4-3), and having walked the tying run to first, who went on to score and tie the game (4-4) with Ohtani getting all 4 earned runs.

Just throwing hard is no recipe for success. Many hitters sit ''dead-red'' and send fast balls out faster than they came in. Jury is still out on Ohtani.

Yeah, but if you have a variety of pitches to keep things unpredictable plus control/accuracy plus the fastest pitches in MLB plus the stamina to play for at least two hours or 6-7 innings (a possible weakness for young Ohtani) and a smidgen of luck to avoid being injured, then you have the stuff to be a dominant pitcher.

I am saying he deserved the win based on his pitching performance not because of the man he left on base. If Alvarez didn't come and throw a homerun ball, no runs would have scored. He did easily get the last K before being taken out. I'd say he could have finished the inning.

Yup it looks like they've figured out Ohtani.

another dismal performance.

Should they stop the engraving on his Hall of Fame plaque?
