Mr Kipling
Only teams that have won the world cup should be allowed to host.

FIFA World Cup 2034 Saudi Arabia is a done deal. No one can resist the smell of MBS's dollar bills.

There were negotiations to hold some Olympic Games in North Korea, but it didn't happen. My mistake.

The Olympics should be conducted without influence from politics. They were held in Nazi Germany, Putin's Russia, Xi's China, and Kim's Korea, so let them be held in Saudi Arabia. The benefit may outweigh the detriment.
Fighto!
These Senators are spot on. But sadly, FIFA is an inherently corrupt organization. Human rights issues are of zero concern at all - the most important issue is always how much money can be obtained. They will likely be awarded the World Cup.
Saudi Arabia runs an oil-funded league with some of the biggest names in football getting the world's biggest salaries. Occasionally the attendances are around 700 spectators - and that is well AFTER the covid era which prevented fans attending.

Too late to object once we had Qatar as hosts

They're in no position to lecture others, considering they are currently funding and promoting a genocide.
Mr Kipling
The league the plays in empty stadiums that become even more empty at half time?
The worlds best soccer player turned down the money and refused to lower himself to that level for money. Well done Messi!

The most famous soccer player in history plays in the Saudi Arabian league. They even have a show on Netflix about the league. This shows how popular the league is in the world. In the future it seems that it will be the most popular international soccer competition. Therefore they should host the World Cup.
Mr Kipling
They support the Saudi oppression of women, gays and Shia. Ignore the chopping up of one of their own citizens in the Saudi embassy in Turkey but are against a soccer event?
Right, I see where their priorities are.
NOMINATION
FIFA don't give a rat‘s behind about human rights. I know for sure both Saudi Arabia and China will get the World Cup within the next 20 years.

Oregon Senator Ron Wyden has been battling Saudi Arabia since a pattern emerged in the U.S. wherein the Saudi government helped its citizens flee the U.S. after committing serious crimes. In Oregon, that involved the Saudi government flying out a Saudi exchange student who ran over and killed a teen girl in a crosswalk while speeding down a busy street and then fled without stopping.

Keep politics out of sports it's that simple. And respect every culture however absurd it may seems to you/ is it makes sense to those it matters most.
Some dude
“we urge you to seek out a host country with a record of upholding human rights.”
That narrows things down quite considerably.

One's first thought on reading this headline was that Ron Wyden of Oregon and Dick Durbin of Illinois must be in the pockets of the genocidal entity.....and they are:

Hundreds of Palestinian and Lebanese football players, team staff and officials have been murdered by Israel, but we've heard nothing from FIFA about this. Nothing. The genocidal entity has damaged or destroyed all 41 football pitches in Gaza and all sports facilities, yet we've heard nothing from the IOC either. Nothing.
Both organizations are tacitly supporting the genocide. It's an utter disgrace.

So much for sport and politics not mixing.
