"Well done. Keep this up girl and soon you'll be as rich as I am" whispered Serena to Naomi.

The Princess has the Queen's number.

Interesting seeing people call for Serena to retire because she only made the top four of female tennis players on the entire planet.

You people really think her career is over just because she's not taking the top spot? The attitude that if you can't be number one and do it perfect, you should just quit, is one that losers take. Not winners.

Wonder why so many downvotes for comments cheering Osaka.

She’s a star and I am confident she has great chances of becoming the best of her generation, should she keep playing and improving the way she currently is.

6-3, 6-4

Can't argue with that.

Fighto!: "Well stated. I have been Naomi-chans biggest supporter on here for many years, since she went pro back in 2013."

I don't think your account has been active that long, so how could you have been a supporter on here for that many years?

"Ive learned to deal with the inevitable haters and downvotes. Its just jealousy of her, pretty much."

Ummm... no. Why so many of her "fans" get downvoted is because while WE were saying she is an up and coming threat, people who claim to be die-hard fans since the time she won her first Open only three years ago said -- and I truly mean many of the exact same people -- "She is NOT Japanese!" Those same people changed their tune immediately and now brag about her, as though they had anything to do with the woman's talent. The rest of us were talking about how powerful her serve was, and how she was someone to watch. But hey, if I'm wrong in your case, link us to your 2013 posts supporting her, and I'll apologize to you.

In any case, to the match at hand, I expected more of close match, but Osaka has proven she is the new champ, or at least one of them. Serena has more than proven herself as a tennis legend, but it may well be time to retire soon. Good on Osaka.

Harry, you do know that Osaka was the highest-earning female athlete of all time by annual income in 2020, right?

Ego Sum, I guess it has something to do with the flash lockdown in Victoria that was just eased, by still the numbers of spectators allowed is very limited.

Shogun, I was starting to get worried, no comments on Osaka's nationality/passport/ethnicity/Japanese ability.

Two classy competitors. I think they are both winners.

When I read the lede paragraph, which only mentions the loser, I knew this had to be written by an American news agency. Ridiculous. Give us a lede with the name of the winner: Naomi Osaka.

Fantastic! Crushed her! Osaka winning and Serena losing - two of my favorite sights in women's tennis, and they come at the same time. It's like Christmas in February!

Yes, "in 2020 right" being the operative words and yes I did know that.

If you were still playing at top-level in any sport at thirty-nine, after giving birth to a child, you should get lots of press. Twenty-four Grand Slam trophies says so.

Amazing! Convincing victory!

I've been saying all along that this is Naomi-chans Title to lose. No one can come close. Move over Serena. Naomis game is too powerful for anyone now.

Go, Naomi! You got this!

Go Naomi!

She's fantastic, a credit to her country and the game. Lovely lady and lovely family.

Well stated. I have been Naomi-chans biggest supporter on here for many years, since she went pro back in 2013. Ive learned to deal with the inevitable haters and downvotes. Its just jealousy of her, pretty much. I am convinced she will retire as the GOAT of womens tennis, and a billionaire!

Osaka wins, praises levelled at Williams.

What else to expect? This is JT.

Osaka is still Japanese though.

You can carry on downvoting, won't change this fact.

Naomi chan is really dominating the World Female Tennis. No doubt about that!!!

Multiple Grand Slam winner American tennis champion Serena Williams is an inspiration to the young and the young at heart. She makes the youngsters work hard for their wins. There is lot more vintage tennis yet to come from the legendary Serena. All the best at the Grand Slams at Wimbledon, Rolland Garros and at the US Open.

Naomi is a class act. Serena not so much.

It's time for Serena Williams to hang up her racket, raise baby.and take care of husband full time. No offence, she's 40 this year. Wont be as quick and sharp as Naomi Osaka.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Serena Williams is now 39 years old. No offense maybe it's time for her to think about retiring.....

-6 ( +8 / -14 )

Wow, loads of spectators there...not
