Nice result Kei!

Thank you so much for giving us new years gift. Kei !

Great job, Kei! Looking injury free and good for a shot at his first Major title in a few weeks. He would have to be one of the favorites now. Can he and Naomi chan make it a Japanese double!? That would be amazing and shock the sports world!

I thought Kei was gone after that second set. Had 8 break opportunities and failed to convert any, but he powered through that 3rd set like a steam train and I think also Medvedev began to show his age a little bit in letting his frustrations get to him at times, he is just 22. Nice result for Kei and Japan.

Can he and Naomi chan make it a Japanese double!?

I'd like to see that, but I think they are both too focused on their singles game. Perhaps towards the later part of their careers.

A Happy New Year for Kei!

Hey hey! He got one! Good on Nishikori. It's been a while coming - hope he keeps the new momentum rolling forward.

Ganbare Japan!: He would have to be one of the favorites now.

Because he won a third-tier event for the first time in three years?

Congrats!

Credit where it's due. Well done.

The Original Wing: "Because he won a third-tier event for the first time in three years?"

Precisely, although Ganbare Japan and others have already assumed he's won the Masters.

Ganbare Japan and others have already assumed he's won the Masters.

Rather than put words into others' mouths, please instead reflect on your wrong assumption of last year that Kei's career was "done".

Too much to expect a mea culpa from you, I know... you could have learned it from me. I had to do a mea culpa once, it wasn't difficult for me.

If Kei actually qualified for "the Masters," i.e. America's premier golf tournament in Augusta, Georgia and one of four major golf championships (possibly easy to confuse with the "Grand Slam" big four in tennis) then he deserves the sportsman of the decade award, or at least a Ripley's Belive It or Not cartoon blurb.
